Who has had a car vs. triathlete encounter that has drawn blood/caused injury?

Who has had a shark vs. triathlete encounter that has drawn blood/caused injury?

Every spring, the "afraid of sharks" threads start here, but you rarely see "afraid of cars" threads. Yet, my hypothesis says more of us have been negatively impacted by cars than by big fish.

Prove me wrong, BT.

Never had a run in with either, but I am much more afraid of being hit by a car than being bit by a shark.

None of the above...

Can I add MTN bike vs. Yuka plant?  That has happened plenty of times....

But a car made me crash my motorcyle.  Can't say the same thing for a shark.  I just run over them.

i personally know quite a few people that have lost the Car Vs Triathlete battle, i have yet to meet a person that has had an encounter in the water with anything larger than a Jellyfish.

I personally feel safer in the ocean.

I have much greater concern about a car accident.  I have little to no concern about a shark "accident."

OK, I have been hit by cars a few times, both on bike and running. I have "lost" a couple of teeth from it too. I think i saw a shark once while swimmong, but it didnt bother me, so I kept on going.

I guess if I had been swimming after having my teeth knocked out, then maybe the shark might have come in for a closer look....or not.

I am less afraid of cars, but I know they are more likely to hurt me.  I love irrational fear.

What about self vs. self? I am perfectly capable of drawing blood/getting injured with nary a shark or car in sight.

I'm actually the one who voted for "shark vs. triathlete".  In fact, I've had both happen to me.  And before ya'll go wondering how I survived my encounter with a 30-foot Great White...  The actual story is that I was diving and as I reached my hand out to grab a Caribbean lobster for dinner, I stuck it in the face of a foot-long dogfish hiding in the coral.  He must have been scared by my wedding band and bit me on the top of the hand just behind the ring.  Little tiny 1-inch bite that drew a small amount of blood.

Technically - it counts as a shark attack.  but I don't go around boasting about it.  Wink

I guess I could have defined specifically "shark vs. triathlete" as shark vs. person actively engaged in a triathlon or triathlon training.

Or people could include any incident where they were hurt by a car (as a driver, passenger or otherwise not training for or racing in triathlons).

Neither one while I was training for a triathlon but gotten bumps and scrapes on my morning bike commute from cars (either them brushing me or me getting scrapped from emergency action avoidance).

When snorkling in the pacific in College (with a group) I gave a reef shark (grey tip I think???) a little pet and when it took off the trail end of his fin scrapped/cut me.  Not really what you are referring to I know but hey...I bled because of a shark!

It wasn't during training but I have been hit by a car while on my bike so taht's the way I voted. Drivers around here seem to be pretty concious of the bikes on the road. The route I use is a specific bike route with 4-5 ft wide lanes on each side for bicycles.
