Ok, I just can't believe Lance is 100% clean even though he is the most tested athlete and has never tested positive (to my knowledge). In a sports illustrated/cnn article recently, new allegations have surfaced.

So what do you guys think?

This whole issue is the media's wet dream. Here's what I think it would take for Lance to dope and not get caught.
1. Drug or technique that Lance knew couldn't be detected
2. Some expensive %$&* research lab to tell him how every test works and why this deal won't be found out.
3. Yet, this new chemistry that nobody can detect has magical properties that will make Lance fly. And he (and you) believe this sh#$!
4. Oh, and the last part, someone has to assemble the ingredients or apply the process - which can't be known by many on this planet or they'd sell the photos to the enquirer.
Alt scenario - the anti doping orgs get massive kickbacks from Lance to look the other way. And they like Lance's money better than the Germans' or Italians' or Spaniards' money. Sorry, I don't know why given the recent weakness in the USD.

I'm with Alpine. It would either have to be some freakish stuff that's practically magic or some sort of conspiracy. I highly doubt the UCI would be willing to do a cover-up for some "stinky American" over a favored European anyway. The SI article posted sounds like a case of sour grapes. Just my 2psi...

Why is it so hard to believe he's clean? The man is monumentally dedicated, works his butt off on top of being genetically blessed with athletic prowess, and is a survivor.

I wonder if he thought, growing up and dreaming about future success, that he would spend as much time defending his achievements as earning them.  When the guy pops positive, I'll pay attention to the critics and media whores.  Until then I really wish everyone would STFU and give the guy his well earned due.

Even though I really can't stand fads, I'm about to buy a case of Livestrong bracelets and ship them over to be dropped on the giro di italia.  Who's with me?

Just to be clear - the SI/CNN article mentioned is the one about the former assistant who alleges that he found some 'roids (can't remember the name) in a white box under Lance's sink, right? And this former employee is being sued by Lance for trying to shake Lance down for $500,000, right.
Yeah, I believe him.

I agree, I don't know why people feel it is impossible for him to be clean. In my opinion, Lance's success has more to do with his work ethic, talent and team than any other factor. What other team devotes a whole year and an entire team to one race and one person? No other team can afford that. If T-Mobil or CSC were to do the same thing you would probably see more parity in this sport. I even imagine that when Lance retires you will see the Discovery team continue to focus on one race with one person.

From what the team has been saying that looks like the way it is going to go - once Lance retires they are planning to focus on winning another TdF within two years. Although it was interesting to read that Lance is planning to do a one day race completely in support of Hincapie.

Moreover, by his recollection of the name of the steroid, albeit cloudy, is an ANABOLIC steroid. That makes no sense for an endurance athlete to use. It's not as though he found EPO or something of that thread. His claim is highly dubious to say the least.

Also, what seems to be lost in the debate way too often is that cycling is one of the most, if not the most, heavily tested sports on earth...this isn't baseball.

There is no chance in hell that Lance is a Doper. He has been kicking peoples Butts in races since he was a pre teen. As a teenager he was racing in the elite level of triathlons with people such as Dave Scott. This latest accusation is by a loser who is pissed because Lance would not give him money to start a bike shop. The butt licker said he did not tell anyone because he would lose his job but he could have been a rich man by going to the tabloids. The assistant needs a serious ass whooping.Kevin

I will say this. If Lance is a doper, from now on I will never believe any professional athlete that says they don't use drugs.

Ditto on the anabolic steroids. Doesn't make any sense.

Unless he's building up his swimming muscles for Kona...............

Doper or not, lets take a look at what the man has done for the sport. OLN wouldn't have any viewers without him. WE wouldn't have any coverage of the tour, except for the 30 seconds at the end of Sportscenter.
Doper or not, look at his foundation. And then ask yourself, "how's my cancer (or any charity) fundraising coming along?"

Here's the bottom line. Let's think back to the Nike commercial. The one where on the voiceover where he asks as he going into a doping control tent
"This is my body.
And I can do whatever I want to it.
I can push it.
Study it.
Tweak it.
Listen to it.
Everybody wants to know what I'm on.
What am I on? I'm on my bike six hours a day busting my ass.
What are YOU on?"

The tour is a team sport, he wouldn't be where he is w/o his team... it's his team that got him there, not just his own abilities, supernatural as they may seem.... So, I think he's clean... 100%? sure, he's been tested enough to prove that he's clean! His team is clean, they're tested too! I think that maybe having cancer has made him more determined. Also, he's got to be more comfortable in the saddle than other guys....

Exactly. It's amazing to watch Le Tour because it's obvious why Lance and his team do so well - they act like a team. On some of the mountain stages last year (aside from the few guys that break away for the King of the Hill points), the first main group of riders is Lance with a number of team mates, a handfull of solo riders and a couple of team pairs. The team pairs end up working against each other instead of with each other and the solo riders were literally on their own. Don't get me wrong, Lance is an amazing cyclist, but his domestiques are extremely good at what they do too. Watching Lance try to give one of the stage wins to Floyd Landis was very cool. Floyd did most of the pulling on the climbs of that stage and Lance did what he could to keep Floyd out front during the last downhill. In the end, Lance won the stage, but I thought it was an incredible gesture. There's a reason they call them "The Blue Train."

Lance does well because he doesn't "try" to be the star anymore. He knows the benefits of a great team and uses it to their (and his) advantage.

No!  Never!  Not Lance!!!  He was asked (undoubtedly more than once) by someone at one time what he was on ... to which he replied "I'm on my bike 7 hours a day!"  And I believe him.  As far as I am concerned, he is innocent until proven otherwise.

well, no one keeps their cycle under their sink and labeled. Period. If your on a 10 week cycle of dBol and Winny, you know it, you do't need the box to say so.

That said, is Lance on the ragged edge? I think so. But its the team that dominates. No one escapes for a 100km breakaway on their own day in and day out. How often was Rasmussen (sp?, the Rabobank climber) realed back in by the pack? Day after day.

You take away a Ekimov, a Hincappie, a Ladis, or a Riveria, and Lance is a good TT rider with an outside chance of a top 10.

yo,
lance isn't using roids, but he is up to no good. He is on the same kind of stuff that some of the baseballas were using. That stuff is undetectable, it can not be traced with any drugtest yet. They sell it to college athletes now, wait untill you see these cats at the penn relays. It will be off the hook. the juice lance is on is specially made for the type of activities he does, it is not the steroid that puts pimples on your back, these scientists are good. Lance will lose the next tour that he enters because he is too afraid to keep juicing. he thinks that someone credible like cris carmichael will seel him out for the $$$$$$. Yo, if you don't know, now you know. Peace.
