Sunny
Total Time = 1h 41m 42s
Overall Rank = 268/575
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 24/54
Pre-race routine:

Laid out my gear and noticed a BIG problem! I had brought two right shoes from two different sets of running shoes! I had to run in my driving sneakers, a pair of beat up old NB's.
Swim
  • 19m 25s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

The first 100-150 yards stunk. I was questioning why I was there. Then I got my rhythm and things went much better the guy drafting on me kpt hitting my feet. Our swim wave also included the Clysdales. Swim waves went off late!
What would you do differently?:

Warm up for 100-200 yaeds.
Transition 1
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

Had an issue with my glasses and computer, but otherwise ok. It was a bit of a run from the mat near the water to my bike and then to the exit.
Bike
  • 50m 12s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 20.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Great course no complaints. Definitely the most crowded I have been on. The new bike fit made my back a little sore toward the end. Hard to stay areo. Top speed of 39 mph
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time riding in the new position.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

The non-running NB's were hard to tie and too big! I had to retie them once before leaving the transition area!
What would you do differently?:

Remember all my eqipment!
Run
  • 27m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Lousy. My feet kept moving around in my shoes and I had to stop to retie one when the long laces came undone. I know this cost me 3-5 minutes minimum if not more.
What would you do differently?:

Double and triple check my gear. practice more bricks. Drop more weight.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Failing to bring aall my gear. Lack of brick training and lack of warm up.

Event comments:

The drinks through out were very warm. Otherwise well done.

Great job Doug.  With the right shoes you would have definately picked up much better time.  I am and I know you will keep working harder to get better!

Great job Doug, especially on the bike.  Even with the wrong shoe, the run time was still pretty darn good.  I guess the more races we get under our belt, the more we learn.

Good job on making it through the run in old shoes.  You have taught me a very valuble lesson - never own 2 pairs of running shoes that look the same b/c I would definitely do the same thing.  ;-)

Great job! your bike time was blazing fast especially considering that you're getting used to the new fit. That's so funny about the shoes. I often consider labeling my shoes New vs Old or alternating colors. I actually had a dream that i brought two left shoes..

Great to meet you finally.  Sorry about the shoes.  That bike couse was crazy busy!   Especially when people can't hold a line!  We'll have to hook up for more training rides and OWSing.

Great job Doug!  Seems like I learn something new everytime I do a tri as well.  That was a long swim though for a sprint.   OWS is different for sure!

Doug

Great job despite forgetting the right shoes!  How the heck fast were the other guys in your AG going if you averaged almost 21mph?  You were flying!

That swim was a tough one! good job. Way to HTFU thru the problems. Sucks about your running shoes. Just skip sunglasses for short races. I almost never wear them on the bike because they tend to get steamed up whenever I am wearing my aero helmet. The more things you can do without, the less you have to think about in transitions!
