Was noticing (based on some recent threads) there seems to be a good number of engineers/designers here... so what do you do?

BSME Florida
PE Florida

I co-own a company that designs and builds custom automation machinery: robot assembly cells, inspection equipment. anything you see on "How It's Made"

In one of the mech engineering buildings at Florida they had a sign... "If you are here for the trains, you're in the wrong place".  It was amazing how many people didn't get it.

A bunch of engineers are sitting around at a party, discussing the nature of the God.

The mechanical engineer proudly claims, “God must be a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the pulleys and levers that drive the body, how the tendons and muscles and bones all work together... it's just amazing."

The chemical engineer disagrees, saying, “No, God has to be a chemical engineer! Think of all the chemical processes that drive the body, how the hormones and the brain and the glands and everything else all interact, well, it's just astounding."

The electrical engineer interrupts, “God has to be an electrical engineer. Consider all the circuitry of the body; how the thousands upon millions of nerve cells transmit signals from one part to another. It boggles the mind!"

The civil engineer has been sitting quietly the whole time. “Well,” he says, as he finishes his drink, “you’re all wrong. God is definitely a civil engineer. Who else would run a waste pipe through a playground?”

It's not exactly the same kind of 'engineer' you're talking about, I know.

Hey it's in the title. Just because I got it in about 1930 it seems. Doesn't that count? 6 tests = the same as 4 years of college?? Right? maybe? No?

Our business school at UNH, where I went, was fondly known as the Whittemore School for Bad Engineers since just about everyone that failed out of the engineering program transferred to the business school.

Purdue '75.  Started out as an Industrial Engineer.  When to MBA school & went into management.  Changed careers and became a financial advisor for a Wall Street firm.  Recently left to become a partner in a independent private capital management firm with several Fortune 500 CEO's as clients.

I think that's pretty universal...

We had shirts (I'm sure other colleges did as well) that read:

Lim of Engineering as GPA->0 = Business

(sorry business majors )
