I think that's pretty universal...

Went over to the dark side (full-time management) about seven years ago...GM of a heat exchanger manufacturer (and what class did ya suppose I disliked the most in undergrad? yup).

Started as a test engineer at LLNL, then similar position at Rexnord and Tower Automotive, then into NPD before falling for the siren song of greater responsibility, pay, glamour and prestige in management.

Started my ME didn't like it much so I started doing what I planned to do with my degree anyway. But I have been feeling like I should finish so going back to complete it only EE this time starting in January hopefully. Unfortunately it has been about 10 years so starting from scratch.

Makes no difference to keep doing what I am doing but I want it for me and in case I want to change careers.

BASc in Computer Science. I'm a software engineer.

I started my degree in electrical engineering, but I don't really like building stuff, I like breaking it, so I switched to Computer Science and software engineering.

Spent 10 years working for a telecommunications manufacturer before changing industries.  Currently in research dabbling with some pretty interesting technologies for a DJIA company.

Still holding on to the notion that I'm an engineer, but finding human behavior issues are fascinating.

work as a 'sales engineer' in the HVAC industry - selling commercial equipment.  i didn't like typical engineering jobs (that i experianced through internships), as i have a hard time staying interested when i am working alone all day, so this was a good mix of working with people and still using technical skills.  That being said, i NEVER do math more complicated than division or multiplication. . and i still use a calculator for that

JBrashear - 2009-09-02 10:25 AM Network Engineer for an ISP: design & maintain our network infrastructure, traffic routing, etc. It's not exactly the same kind of 'engineer' you're talking about, I know.

what kind of engineer was he talking about?  this counts in my book.

I didn't go to school for it or have a degree, just learned on the job for years. So it's the same end result I guess, just a different route taken.

Yeah...I'm a dork because I met Nan while doing Solid State Physics Research during the summer.

Here is my joke:
What's the difference between and introverted and an extroverted Engineer?  The extrovert is talking to YOUR shoes.

Wow... a lot more nerds/geeks more than I expected.  Rock on!

My wife is an Industrial Engineer by education who then became a COBOL (yeah I know) programmer by trade and now a stay-at-home mom.  She's a triathlete as well.

They wouldn't understand the statement anyway.  Just tell them it's the area under the curve and to smile and nod.
