Thanks Jorge.  I'm definitely in.  I'll be using RPE and HRM.  I started the plan last year but my IT Band had other plans.  This year I am 100% healed and ready to rock & roll.

Me too!  Need some structure, too easy to get lazy and just spin.
Thanks for the work.

Workouts posted for the week on Sunday night in Jorge's blog- he usually gives a link. starts Monday so look for info this weekend.  Jorge mentioned he may put it into a challenge thread.  3 workouts a week and an optional 4th.

Looks like I found this thread just in time.  I'm in, I guess I need to go pick up a trainer this weekend now.  Suggestions?

I'm in! This sounds like fun! Laughing

I suppose I really have to go put my bike on the trainer now, huh?

I don't have any way to judge speed/distance on my trainer. It's a Cyclops old-fashioned one... I usually just log HR and time.

I have a HRM. No power.

Bump for the details.  Its on Page 3

JorgeM - 2009-10-18 5:33 PM Sorry for the late responses folks but I wasn't around BT much over the weekend; I was busy getting my ar$$ kicked racing cyclocross

Let me reply to some of the questions:

1. Yes you can follow the plan on a computrainer, just program it into erg mode and enjoy the pain.
2. yes you can follow the plan riding outside; the problem is to find a road that will allow you do the intervals.
3. Yes you can do this on a spinning bike (or similar), just do it by RPE and adjust resistance to match the adviced intensity
4. Yes you should be able to mix this with swim and run training. The focus will be to increase power through 1 hr intense sessions 3-4x a week leaving you time to do plenty of swim/run. I am doing a run focus running every day until Dec 31st so I'll just do two a days.
5. Plan will be updated from last year; after doing the plan and getting feedback I think I can make the progression even better and get greater power gains.
6. The old plan will remain on my plan and the new one will be uploaded every week. Sessions can be done every other day. If you fuel properly you should be able to recover no problem.
7. If you have a coach talk to him/her to see if the plan would match your goals/plans
8. You can start the plan anytime you want, If you have other races or still on Tri season then get started after you recover, for the rest starting Nov 1st will set us ahead of the fitness gains without investing too much time training. The point is to invest at least 3 hrs x week, train very hard and have plenty of time to do other stuff, enoy the holidays, relax a bit from structured crazy volume training, etc.
9. Each session will be intense hence even when you might want to have some entertainment (music, movies, etc) *if* you are pushing at the right intensity you'll be to focused on blocking the pain and not that much on the rest

Let me know if you have more Qs or if I failed to respond something...

Ok gang, first of all I am very happy and excited to see so many BTers willing to participate in the program and work hard towards increasing your cycling power for the 2010. I understand it is difficult to coordinate a general plan with some many athletes from different levels, skills and with different goals (from sprint to IM) however the plan should allow you to cover the most important training adaptations for any endurance athlete and though the interaction we will all have on the thread it will enable each and one of you to tweak the plan to match your specific needs.

2nd of all the plan will run 14 weeks in which it will target 3 very important training adaptations for endurance athletes: Maximal Aerobic Capacity (VO2 max), Maximum Lactate Steady State (MLSS) and Tempo. The average number of sessions per week will be three 45-60min sessions with an optional 2+ hr long ride. All sessions should be done at least every other day to allow 24 hrs of recovery in between though consecutive sessions might be possible as long as you take care of proper fueling before, while and after training. You can and should start the plan when better suit your 2010 racing schedule (i.e. if you are planning to race a late IM then it will be best if you don't follow the plan this early)

3rd, all details will be posted on my blog, in fact most are already there. In there you will find notes for the terminology, how to read a session, how to do the testing, how to set up training levels (aka zones) and tips as to what to do when training. If you go to my blog you can see the Training Outline for plan, that way you’ll have an idea of the duration and focus for every week.

4th, you should refer to the assigned thread for any questions and to share your results. It will help if we keep each other informed so we can motivate one another and see what our progression is.

Last but not least all, well I have to set some disclaimers:
1. Before participating in any activity you should get clearance by your PCP and if you have a coach you should discuss with him/her participating in this
2. This is a general plan which in no shape or form is specific to any individual specific needs. Please be aware that if you choose to follow the program it will be done at YOUR OWN RISK. Neither BT, PBM Coaching nor I will be responsible for any injuries that may result from it.
3. This is NOT a coached program. Any interactions for the plan will be through the assigned thread and my blog. Please do not PM or email me about it, if you have questions post those on the thread.

Alrighty, we are almost set to start, get ready!

Thanks Jorge.  You mentioned you had tweaked the plan a bit this year.  What differences might we expect and if you wouldn't mind I would love to know your thinking about why.  The background you gave about training adaptations etc last year was very helpful and I am always interested in learning more.  Looking forward to getting going on Monday!  Enjoy your weekends everyone.

I'm in w/ HRM.  I "think" I'm looking foward to it!  Last year I hated the trainer (not sure why) and substituted indoor spinning classes in the winter (taught by an IM so not your run of the mill spin class).  This year I think it's time to HTFU and do what will make me a better triathlete in the long run.

Sounds Great.  I'm in.  This winter my plan is to build strength & speed in biking, running, & swimming.  I've go the distance down, now need the speed.
