*snorts*

I got you beat. I got brand new tires just last week, I put it on just like I learned how in bike maintenance class (which i got the 3rd fastest tire change...first time too!!).

Rode around the block at home, felt much faster.  Next day was a ride with the group that I haven't ridden with before...5 seconds later, psssssssh. Flat. How lame is that?!  At least *I* didn't change the inner tube, I had 6 strong men helping out a woman in distress. What a fairy tale eh? don't tell my fiance...:-)

gdctex - 2010-04-07 1:28 PM Another rite of passage today.....my first flat.

At least it was on a short run around the neighborhood and I was less than a block from home....so, it was not so bad.

But, I have not changed a flat on the rear wheel before, so this might be fun.  At least I will have the experience before the tri on Saturday.....in case I might need to use what I will learn later today when I fix this flat.  I am not going to time myself on this one.....

I have learned that practice makes perfect!!! I've had two spells of consecutive flats... One in the front (3 in a row, luckily 2 of 'em found at home) -- those ended up being the result of a little piece of glass or sand embedded under my rim tape. And I just had my 3rd on the rear tire (2 on a ride, 1 at home). Looks like my tire is shot and there was a little bit of wire poking through.

I just set up a patching party and patched about 4 tubes. Now I'm off to the LBS cuz I'm out of patches. Curious how all of you feel/handle riding on patched tubes. I think I will carry them as spares but not rely too heavily on them. I have about 9 tubes right now needing patching -- all small holes. I'll pick up more tubes too, and I already have a newer tire to throw on. I actually was riding on my OLD tires that I save for winter on the trainer. We had such a lovely winter that I was outside a lot and should not have been riding on that old tire, and it finally caught up with me.

Finally... TRACY... Honestly, that picture in the white top looks good!! I would be thrilled if that was the worst of it, LOL! I will not post my pics here -- my problems are much more severe!!! I did buy a pic from my latest half-mary because I thought  it made my arms look strong (I was whooping for the camera). If I get brave I'll scan and post but for now I shall stay shy.

You can't talk about a picture like that and then not post it!  It is in the MG rule book!

i heard she was torn over what to do.  on one hand she wants to post it because of the rule you mention.  but on the other hand she doesn't want to post it because she violated the no fanny pack rule. poor slacks.  she's having a tough week.

There's a no fanny pack rule?? How the heck do I carry my Shot bloks when they didn't fit in my pants?! (Is that a Shotblok in your pants or are you just happy to see me?) It's not a big fanny pack -- just a little neoprene racing doo-dad to carry my calories. Sheesh.

And the scanner is in hub's office, and he's VERRRRRRRRRRY busy these days. Too bad, so sad. I am brave enough to post a pic. Because I am strong enough to be out there doing what I do, dammit!! Who cares what faults (or assets)  my body has, LOL!

Did anyone else know that patches are only 30 cents for FOUR!?! A bargain at twice the price!! Who knew?! I bought 16. I have 5 more tubes to patch.

Fanny packs are great is you are 65 and taking your grandchildren to Disneyland.
That is all.
Off for a run. Maybe I'll take some pics of myself. I will have a white shirt on. Maybe I'll get it wet and see what happens.

OK. So no picture for you (said in my best Soup Nazi voice). Cuz I'm wearing my fanny pack. Which is really like a race belt, if that matters. (Is a water belt a fanny pack too? Cuz I wear one of those...) Wondering if it's a question of definitions, cuz I'm feeling some fightin' words comin' on...

A water belt that only has 1 big massive water bottle is not cool. Your trying to hard. If its a fuel belt, amphib thinger, nathan etc you are ok.

that is hilarious.  i ditched my fuel belt (fanny pack) at the 20 mile point of my marathon just so that my finish line photo would show me "fanny pack-less"

lol, slacks, that is funay!  if you check out my album, definitely a cool look sans fuel belt

wow, i've never patched a tube...what's going on with the roads up there in Washington...why so many flats?  i guess "Ah-nold" is putting our tax dollars to work by smoothing out our road ways...that's why CA has a huge deficit.

John, you will have to go to all Giants/Astro's series openers from now on!  We're in First place!

Did you give your fuel belt to someone? That is funny! I never have athletic supporters (jock straps) at my races and I'm too cheap to ditch one permanently. What will I do for my IM?!?!! Oh dear. This will require some planning and thinking.

I know on the flats... Bad luck, really!! At least with the "cluster" flats I found the cause -- it just took me 2+ flats to look harder. Before those 6, I only had about two in the last year or so.  Hey, I'd rather have clean/smooth roads than great schools!! Oh wait... maybe not. (Not that our schools are rolling in dough, of course.)

So hubs and I just booked our kid-free August Hawaii vaca. WOOT! To celebrate, I'm making kalua pork for dinner tonight, with an asian slaw on the side. Dinner's gonna rock. Anyway, we leave for Hawaii on 8/18, and Lake Stevens 70.3 is 8/15. I'm kinda tempted to enter it... Then enjoy a nice break in Hawaii where I'll spend 2-3 hours/day 40+ feet below the surface blowing bubbles with the fishies...

Thanks, Fats, for posting my pics.

I feel like such a newbie...

I replaced the tube on the rear wheel tonight...aired it back up...all looks good!

So I air up the front tire as well since it was a little low....now I feel air coming out around the stem even though the cap is on tight.....sigh....I have another tube but that is my last one.  So, I guess a trip to the LBS before Saturday is in order for more tubes and a patch kit too.
