Kyla!  I did not realize you were so tall!  And dang, girl, you been lifting?

and yes, i did hand my belt off to my cousins who came to cheer for my cousin Mark and I.   They almost missed me, but I saw them first (they were wearing matching SF 49er clothing) on top of their parkas..did I mention it was 30F and windy!!!  I basically ripped the stupid thing off my waist and threw it at their feet!

Apologized later at the pancake house

HAPPY DANCE FOR STEVE AND KIM AND THE NEW TRI BABY!!!

Kyla-- I am a fuel belt ditcher big time.....the last two Bostons, I ditch the bottles as I finish them so it is easier to move the full ones to the front.  The first year, I was having a really bad time so threw Belt #1 on the ground at about the 14m mark when I thought I missed Paul and my bottle hand-off.....and then threw #2 away at 21m on Hearbreak hills due to complete and total frustration with cramped up legs. That was like $90!  Paul didn't bother to point that out when he finally saw him.  I think I might have killed him.

holy cow a lot of posts since I last looked today.

First day back in the pool after over a month, did not have my watch with, but did a total of 1500 yards, I was not as winded as I expected to be, my arms fatigued, but again not as bad as expected.  I just did 3 sets of 400 yards and was pretty happy.  The best part, no pain in my wrist, only a little unsteady feeling as the strength is still lacking.  Hopefully over the next 3 weeks I can hit the pool no less than 3 times a week to build back as much as possible.  My flip turns were stellar today, probably the best they have ever been.

Bike ride tonight... I looked at it, told my wife it was going to suck, and then did it, yep I was right.  Main set was 30 seconds on 115-120% 30 seconds off at 65-70%.. 20 sets worth.  My recovery sections were probably on the lower range, more to the tune of 55-60 probably.  Man oh man do my legs burn.  I ended up splitting the main set up and did 10 then a 5 minute 65% recovery section to make me not want to vomit, then the other 10.  9 and 10 made my stomach get very uneasy, but I hit the high side of the wattage for almost every one.

The best news.  After  some more tweaking, I had my first ride without things going numb.  A friggin men.  A bit more work on the seat tilt and I am good to go.  For the longest time I was afraid the bike was not a good fit or something.  Hope to get in in the next few weeks for a fit now that I have it close.

that is hilarious.  i ditched my fuel belt (fanny pack) at the 20 mile point of my marathon just so that my finish line photo would show me "fanny pack-less"

lol, slacks, that is funay!  if you check out my album, definitely a cool look sans fuel belt

wow, i've never patched a tube...what's going on with the roads up there in Washington...why so many flats?  i guess "Ah-nold" is putting our tax dollars to work by smoothing out our road ways...that's why CA has a huge deficit.

John, you will have to go to all Giants/Astro's series openers from now on!  We're in First place!

Did you give your fuel belt to someone? That is funny! I never have athletic supporters (jock straps) at my races and I'm too cheap to ditch one permanently. What will I do for my IM?!?!! Oh dear. This will require some planning and thinking.

I know on the flats... Bad luck, really!! At least with the "cluster" flats I found the cause -- it just took me 2+ flats to look harder. Before those 6, I only had about two in the last year or so.  Hey, I'd rather have clean/smooth roads than great schools!! Oh wait... maybe not. (Not that our schools are rolling in dough, of course.)

So hubs and I just booked our kid-free August Hawaii vaca. WOOT! To celebrate, I'm making kalua pork for dinner tonight, with an asian slaw on the side. Dinner's gonna rock. Anyway, we leave for Hawaii on 8/18, and Lake Stevens 70.3 is 8/15. I'm kinda tempted to enter it... Then enjoy a nice break in Hawaii where I'll spend 2-3 hours/day 40+ feet below the surface blowing bubbles with the fishies...

Thanks, Fats, for posting my pics.

Congrats on booking your trip!
Am far as the IM and gear goes remember you have the special needs bags (around the 1/2 way point on the bike and run).  You can pick stuff up and drop stoff off there.  We got our bags back after IMFL.

Due to one FB picture where everyone (but me) is standing on a curb, people think I am vertically challenged. I am 5'6". Well, a LBS recently told me I was 5'5", but that was after a long run so I'm claiming spinal compression. My driver's license says 5'6". And the arms are merely from spending more time in the pool. I kinda like it!!

Clearly I will need to come up with a strategy for ditching fuel belts.

and...

CONGRATULATIONS STEVE!!!!!!

That is just beyond exciting!! Parenthood is definitely an e-ticket ride... And I love the u/s picture!!

TrevorC - 2010-04-07 5:44 PM
kkcbelle - 2010-04-07 3:39 PM OK. So no picture for you (said in my best Soup Nazi voice). Cuz I'm wearing my fanny pack. Which is really like a race belt, if that matters. (Is a water belt a fanny pack too? Cuz I wear one of those...) Wondering if it's a question of definitions, cuz I'm feeling some fightin' words comin' on...

A water belt that only has 1 big massive water bottle is not cool. Your trying to hard. If its a fuel belt, amphib thinger, nathan etc you are ok.

Not:
Torso Pack

With a bottle that big you could use it as extra floatation when swimming and then fill it for your run at transition and fuel belt is not a fanny pack. I use a fuel belt with 4 bottles in it and a small pocket for energy stuuf. I also have a couple of small pockets on the side of my tri shorts (at the bottom of the legs) where I can stuff a couple of gel packs.

But due in August, geez man, couldn't you and Kim have been a little more considerate?   How are you suppose to travel to IMCA with me and register for a race when you are going to be changing diapers for the first time? - TOTALLY KIDDING!   I am so happy for both of you.  Maybe I'll get to be the first one to see the baby bird.  And I'll drag Ryan up to CA with me
