I went long earlier this year and am doing the Kinetic Half. Might come down there and give y'all grief during the OLY, though.

I'm in.  I'm thinking about doing the Kinetic Half as well.  I guess that means I have to get back in the pool sometime soon.

Cool! Our triclub has about ten peeps doing the R in B Oly. Stop by our tent and see us maniacs I mean us folks. Hope you have a better race this year - sorry about the wetsuit grief.

And dudes I am a kayaker for the Half and will also do whatever volunteering job needs to be done later during the race - last year I marked people on the run. Some of those suckers would not slow down and I got in quite a few sprints chasing them down with my black magic marker :-D

See you there. I did the Giant Acorn version of this race in October and it was great.

My own dumb-azz fault for buying a surf wetsuit my first year racing.  It isn't good for a darn thing!  Course now I have a sleeveless so I'll have to haul azz to keep semi warm!

I'm in and looking forward to my second Bumpass! I remember obsessing over water temp last year and fearing the chill. Wasn't as bad as I'd thought it would be. Bring it!

You may be able to rent one from a local tri shop or through your tri club.  Where are you coming from?  NOVA has some places but I'm not too familiar with them since I'm in Richmond.  There is a shop in Richmond that has been renting them....I think they're going to stop this year though.

Bonzai rents them, and has deals where if you rent -> buy you get back your rental credit.

I highly recomment renting a suit first before buying.  In some race expo's that are lakeside you can also try out suits as part of a demo program (in case you're interested in buying).

I'm certainly looking forward to this race this year though!

Thanks - I will take a look at Bonzai - I was thinking of buying one but if I can rent one for less than $40 seems like a good deal.

I appreciate everyone's help!

This will be my first Olympic Tri as well.  Any suggestions on what type of wetsuit...full-sleeve or sleeveless?

Water will be lucky to be low 60's full if you can!

Curious, after the swim, what does one wear to avoid freezing while biking the first few miles sopping wet in the cold air?

I have arm warmers, do you wear anything else or just HTFU?

Thanks.

Last year the water was barely 60 but the air was really warm so you warmed up fast on the bike.  If it's nasty out I'll throw a bike jacket on in T1

Does anyone know if there is a place/space to park a little RV/camper near/at the race site?  I know at the Lake Anna tri (other side of the lake), there's a campground and all.  But this is a bit of a ways away, and appears to lack that.

My thinking is that I'm basically there the entire weekend, and it looks fairly cheap to rent an RV via places like RVAmerica.

Anyone know how the OWS start works?  Is it by age group, mass start, etc.?

The website states: The 1500 meter swim begins with an in water start with the course going around the transition area and the finish line.

Pretty much all of the Setup races do their starts by AG.  I've never seen a mass start in a Setup race.
