Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread I did it the first year it was held and it was my first tri ever. Swim is pretty flat and is a point to point. You walk to the start from transition and then swim back. Bike I remember being rmostly flat and the run is pancake flat on a trail through a park. I liked this race a lot. |

(If I was going to be there that day, I'd totally bring it...but sadly I am not) There are a bunch of race reports to look at for this too... But judging from what I've heard/read, looks pretty flat overall. |

Master 2346 Dayton, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread I've done this course twice (both times in 2008) and liked it as well, but I wouldn't classify the bike course as flat. Of course, I live and train in corn field country, so a speed bump qualifies as a hill for me. There are a few pretty good hills on the bike that I recall, particularly the one right before the turnaround. The run is completely flat and on a very nice little trail that I really liked. |

Veteran 191 Minnetonka, MN | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread MNDiver is spot on but I'll add my two cents Swim is a lake swim, no current. it is near a big part of the lake so with the right wind it could get choppy, last year it was super calm. the bike is pretty flat except for one decent hill near the turn around (its an out and back). I think I have it traced on here as a route. the run is as flat as you can get. most of run is on a crushed limestone bike path (old railroad bed) and again is an out and back. I heard it was already full for this year. I did it last year and will be back again this year. One bonus is the t-shirt is a dry-fit shirt, not a cotton t-shirt, so I actually wear it a lot instead of making it a rag. Edited by jaredfore 2010-03-24 1:39 PM |

Expert 1059 Lakeville, MN | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread Well, with the possible waves in excelsior bay, it could be classified as a hilly swim!! I have done this race, but I did it when it was the Best of the US race in 2006 (I believe). The bike course is deceptive, as it seems like it should be flat, but i didn't tink it was Here aremy notes about the course http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... Best of luck, Ross runs a great race! Edited by benihana 2010-03-25 7:01 AM |

We should plan a party or something! Totally agree!! I will be leaving Milwaukee on Friday morning at about 8ish or so on the 18th. Probably pull into the Minnetonka area around 3ish i reckon (bringing the lovely spouse and T1 along so will probably have to stop at least once along the way for some stretching and food for the wee one). Cant remember the name of the town where my Brother inlaw and his fiancee live at the moment, but just on the outskirts of Minnetonka, MnDiver knows...................................

Plymouth be the town. Not sure how they will do it this year but the first year of the race you had to pick up the packet the night before at the race venue. Might be a good time for a short swim and a meet up if anyone is interested.

Master 2802 Minnetonka, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread The maps on the Lake Minnetonka Triathlon website http://63.255.227.21/index.htm are pretty lame. Does anyone have a link to a better bike route map? I searched on here but couldn't find one. Maybe a group ride on a May weekend or evening? Thanks! |

Veteran 191 Minnetonka, MN | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread Try this one http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=125846 not sure the turn around point it exactly right but its within a tenth or two. This was the course last year anyways, I haven't looked to see if there were any changes for this year. |

Champion 10018 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread That's kind of no man's land for hotels. Aren't you staying with your family in Plymouth? Or will you be visiting them? The best is probably a hotel on 494 in Plymouth. This County Inn & Suites is pretty well located: http://www.countryinns.com/hotels/mnmouth/locations/

Veteran 191 Minnetonka, MN | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread If you are not staying with your family in Plymouth there are a couple of hotels in Chanassen which is actualy closer to Excelsior the some may think. However its completly the oppisite way direction than Plymouth so would be further if you were to visit the fam. http://www.countryinns.com/chanhassenmn http://www.hiexpress.com/chanhassenmn neither are spectatular, but they are not real old either. |

Champion 10018 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: Lake Minnetonka Triathlon : Official Thread Yeah, this is a good idea too if you don't have to go to Plymouth. You'd want to be on the south side of Lake Minnetonka, for sure. Also really anything on 494 would be a snap. Easy to reach from Wisconsin and on race morning, very little traffic in either direction. jaredfore - 2010-05-03 1:25 PM If you are not staying with your family in Plymouth there are a couple of hotels in Chanassen which is actualy closer to Excelsior the some may think.
