Sunny
Total Time = 1h 10m 19s
Overall Rank = 48/384
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/25
Pre-race routine:

Slept pretty well as I have been proccupied this week. Awoke second before the alarm at 5:45. Ate cereal and had a diet Pepsi on the way to the site (6 miles away).
Event warmup:

Went back and forth to my truck twcie, about 2 miles. Needed a pre-race bowel deposit. Cut it CLOSE!
Swim
  • 04m 23s
  • 273 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

A good swim for me. It would have been better if they had spaced us out a little more. The swimmer in front of me made it a little hard to pass. I should have passed her between75 and 100 yards, but it took until 200 yards to complete it.

Passed two swimmers never passed.
What would you do differently?:

Seed higher.
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Pretty good. Had a little trouble getting clips in.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure
Bike
  • 35m 10s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.47 mile/hr
Comments:

Took till about mile 2 to hit my rhythm, but then it kicked in good. Top speed was 31.2 mph. Passed a LOT of riders. I think the lowest number was 35. Tried to spin a little before T2 to help transition to the run
What would you do differently?:

Try to find my groove sooner.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Made my first little mistake. Forgot to put race belt out and had to go through my bag to find it. D'oh!

First time without socks. It really helped.
What would you do differently?:

Lay things out better
Run
  • 28m 12s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

The Earth's gravity and the sun worked their ways against me again! Heat and humidity are my Kryptonite! I started out too fast, but slowed it down to get things under control. The hills were brutal in the heat. And some of the people I passed on the bike passed me back on the run. Number 80 said I was the only one to pass him on the bike and he passed me in the first 1/2 mile of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Live on a planet with lighter gravity or lose more weight. Can't decide which yet.
Post race
Warm down:

Cooled off a little and sat with Havin'Fun (Who won her AG!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Subcutaneous fat!

Event comments:

Love the race and the cause. A child will have a beautiful smile for each racer entered!

Nice Race and Great Bike Split.  How was the no shoes?....that might be next for me.

This Swim / Bike / Run stuff sometimes make me think that skating & puck handling while watching your front and backside to ensure nobody takes your head off seem Easy!!!    Laughing

Nice race Doug!  Killer bike and swim.  Running is brutal for us "plus size" guys in the heat and humidity....  You should be happy though - how did this compare to last year's race?

Dino: There are times when I am out on the run that I would kill to be on a nice cool ice rink! The socks, or lack of them worked like a charm.

Andy: My time was 42 second slower. Swim was 28 seconds faster, T1 was 21 seconds faster, Bike was 29 seconds faster, T2 was 16 seconds slower, and run was 1:46 slower than last year, probably due to the heat and humidity (and lbs.)

Nice job, Doug!  Especially with the heat/humidity.  Add the hills to that and that is pretty tough going.  Funny forgetting about the race belt.....you won't forget that again.

Awesome job today, Doug.

You killed on the bike split. Amazing. Your swim was really good too, and you had a solid run.

Keep it up!

Blame T2 and the race belt!  Way to go otherwise!  Heat will sap you faster than anything!

What is with you picking the hotter than hell races? I am starting to worry. Your next race is the Washington Olympic. I am entered in that one, so should I start training to race in crazy heat and humidity if you are going to bring your normal race weather along for the ride.

Great race. Looks like you got that specialized rolling along at a pretty good clip. Nice run considering the weather. See you in Washington.
