Subject: What do you do to not smell so bad?
I was just thinking today after doing a practice sprint at the gym how soaking wet I was from sweat and smelt like sweaty chlorine because I did the swim in the gym pool. I didn't stink up the gym or nothing but I did smell like chlorine and sweat. I would of showered after swimming but I was doing a practice so I hurried up into the main gym area to the bike not to waste too much time. I also notice I sweat a good amount on the bike whenever I go for a ride. I use a bunch of deodorant and some cologne when I workout. I take like 3 or 4 showers a day anyways but just was curious.

So do you smell really bad when you are done doing a race or even just working out? I'd imagine after say a HIM or IM and hearing people say stories of how they just lift there leg and let it rip when they have to pee on the bike or what not.   Does anyone do anything to combat this?  Any secrets? Or does the air from biking and running so fast just dissipate the smell lol.  Lots of deodorant? Cologne? Perfume? Febreze? @ T1 or T2? Is there some hanging rear-view air freshener you wear around your neck that I don't know about?

Personally I don't give a damn what I smell like when I'm working out as long as I have a shower and smell nice afterwards.

Hang out with other runners/cyclists/triathletes.  They either small as bad or don't care!

I don't care what I smell like when I'm working out either but I don't have to smell nice afterward, just not stink.   I'm married with kids, nobody to impress.

You smelly sticky guys need a female perspective... and guess what?  I don't care either.

Your workout is more important than how you smell.  Just be kind and wipe off the gym equipment after you've sweated all over it.  That's all.

Start to play hockey too...the smell from training is nothing in comparison to how I smell after a hockey game. I am almost certain I smell like roses after tri training compared to after a hockey game.

Unless someone is going days between showers or something, I've never even noticed other people at the gym or a race--even if they are soaked in sweat--I think most people are more worried about themselves to even think about it.

I would actually rather smell sweat than tons of cologne or hair products in the pool lane or treadmill next to me.  That I would notice and be really bothered by.   I might be extra sensitive to it, but it really bothers me.  I think if you shower and wear normal amounts of deodorant, you're probably fine.

Shower before you work out.  Make sure your clothes are CLEAN before working out.  For instance, we have to wash some of my husbands stuff twice to get the stink out.
Please, please, please for the love of everything sacred do not wear cologne to the pool, gym or anywhere you will run into people exercising.

I know I got a good hard workout in when I can smell myself.  Nah, just kidding but really, most of us sweat quite a bit working out, you're nothing different.  Please, please, please don't wear cologne.  It really makes me sick to my stomach when I'm working out and smells/tastes bad in the pool.  I'd rather smell a guys heavy sweating any day over their cologne.  KeriKadi is right though, make sure your clothes are clean when you start. Oh, and deodorant is a good thing, I actually apply morning and evening and find it works better overall that way.

I find that soaking in the pool lets me absorb enough chlorine to mask some of the other noxious odors...

Apparently I smell really, really bad after a workout (so say my kids when I come home from a run or a bike ride.) But I'm not really out again in public until after a shower, so it never occurred to me to worry about it.

I have a problem with overly stinky people in the gym. There's normal, and then there's workout normal, and then there's Geneva Convention violators. Many threads on BT about the latter group under "gym horror stories".

I'm one of those people with a fairly sensitive sense of smell and thus many things end up smelling way too strong to me. I use odorless, unscented versions of everything if possible - soap, shampoo, detergent, that sort of thing that is often scented. Walking through the perfume section of Macy's makes me gag half the time - it doesn't matter if it was supposed to smell good.

A quick Internet search will tell you how your body odor is affected by diet and the like. Some of it's real, a lot is probably bunk (like most things on the internet).

If you're in the stinky category you may consider a diet change to more fiber, less processed foods, etc.

And ditch the cologne during workout. It only adds to the stink.

I use a bunch of deodorant and some cologne when I workout.

Now that's gotta smell bad.

My experience is that (my) fresh/new sweat doesn't smell. It's only if you have sweat before, it dried and then you start sweating again it's get's smelly.
So frequent showers and a good odor/perfume free deodorant works best for me. (and my training mates ;-))

SHower up of course

Just buzz your underarm to 1/4" or less, most the smell is just from the oldest part of the  hair. It works.

Tuck a cheeseburger under each armpit to mask the odor, everyone loves cheeseburgers.
