Extreme Veteran 464 Louisville, KY | Subject: Chicago..Help! So, I'm not in the habit of posting my personal life on the internet, but could use some help. I have a work meeting in Chicago on Friday. Decided it would be a fun thing to stay over the weekend, and go to a Cubs game, and spend the weekend in the city. So, the guy I have been dating and I decide he would fly up to meet me for the weekend. He is usually the trip planner, and has never been to Wrigley so, I went all out and got tickets (2 rows off the field...infield), made sure we were staying downtown, etc. I was very excited to be able to return the favor and do something nice for him. Well, Monday morning, I get a phone call, and he states not only is he NOT able to go, but proceeds to....to put it bluntly...dump me. After a day and a half of the worlds largest pity party, I am now not sure of what to do. It's too late to get anyone else to go...have tried. I'm stuck with expensive tickets, and a hotel room...that was yes, you guessed it...prepaid on priceline . Do I just go alone? How would you sell these tickets this late? I already tried my sob story on the hotel.....no go. This really sucks. I've never had anyone do anything like this to me before. Fire away...need advice. By the way....we all hate him Edited by M-shell 2010-08-18 11:50 AM |

Cubs fans are idiots (I fully expect the wrath of `Miami with numbers' for that comment ) and will buy them up even over face value sometimes because they worship at the house of Wrigley. |

My first instinct was to skip, and continue the pity party well into the weekend, but the thought of throwing that money away is starting to feel worse than what happened. So far, haven't found anyone that can go with. I'm sure it's tough to just take off without much notice. Maybe traveling alone wouldn't be as depressing as I'm thinking. |

Extreme Veteran 717 Chicago | Subject: RE: Chicago..Help! I agree with everyone else Michelle. Sell the tickets and use whatever money you can get out of them and treat yourself to the spa, wine bar, city tour, etc. Since it's a weekend game you shouldn't have any problems selling them on Craigslist. Chicago is so great in the summer. Plus there are lots of BTers here who live near downtown and train down here too. Nothing like a Lake Michigan swim to take your mind off of things haha. |

Ooooooooooooh Tony...now, normally, I would be seething right now, but I've come to realize, that you always say this stuff, so now I brush it off as rubbish my friend! But nice try!! Michelle...I am SOOOO sorry this happened to you...but I am hoping you get someone to bite at the tickets!! Where are you staying? I am sure, even though they are bad, that someone buys those and you can treat yourself to a nice spa visit like the others have suggested. When are you coming in?? If I am around, I would totally meet you for dinner somewhere so you have some company if you like??? I am supposed to go out to the suburbs as I am helping a friend through a very difficult time...so this weekend is bad for me, but I'll see what I can do??? Boys suck!

By the way....we all hate him Sorry about the guy. Sounds like he is a jerk. If Craigslist doesn't work and you want to dump the tickets come up to Wrigley a few hours before the game. Go to the Piano Man bar (corner of Grace and Clark, about 2 blocks North of the stadium). The owner of the bar, tall gray haired guy, buys tickets all the time and will resell them to fans in the neighborhood. He usually stands just out front of the door on the corner selling tickets. I live about 2 blocks from the stadium and dump my tickets to him all the time that I don't use. With the Cubs being terrible you will be lucky to get face value. You can also try selling them to some of the guys around the Addision El stop. They are pretty shady dudes though. Edited by mattb1 2010-08-18 4:09 PM |

Expert 1158 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Chicago..Help! Come to Chicago! I would go to the game (though the Cubs are sucking real bad lately), make a sign with your ex's name and/or picture and something obscene on it about him. Trust me the beers from the fans around you will flow and they will be free. Sure you may get thrown out but it will be a priceless moment! My wife likes to go to the spa at the W hotel, Bliss I think it is called. Right by the lakefront! Sorry about the jerk, his loss! |

I was in Chicago for a few days a couple of years ago and had a blast. Easily one of my favorite short vacations I've had in a long time. Walking around Michigan Ave, etc was fun. We stayed right in the middle of it all, next to the Hancock building (Hyatt maybe? I forget). |

If you have never traveled alone you should give it a shot, it's a whole new experience and Chicago is a very easy place to give it a try. Go for it, have a good time, let him sit at home like a lame don't let it ruin your fun |
