Fred,
Great race on what sounds like a brutal bike and run.   Congrats on reaching the podium, that is awesome.  Looks like your continuing to apply lessons learned from previous races and it is paying off.  Looking forward to seeing you execute at IMOO next year.

Nice race report, Fred.  I really can't imagine cycling that course at the speed you can, it's really impressive.  I also can't imaging making it up the wall or Killer Miller without a compact.  Sheesh.

And yes, that was me and my wife, ras26, that met you and Taser at the finish.

Great race and looks like a pretty good year for you.  You had a great Eagleman in 95 degree heat AND nailed Savageman.  Way to represent PSU!

Great race Fred!

Congrats on making the podium.

I like that you are always trying to learn and improve. Sounds like your Savage nutrition might be a good plan for you going forward. Interesting about your HR being higher. Could it be that the very challenging hills/wall effected your overall HR?

Must be rewarding to know you beat half the elites. Race like this I suspect brings out those that normal challenge of 70.3 might be enough....and higher level athletes. I can't imagine doing this race even with my 50-34 and 11-34 cassette.

Thanks for the report. All your reports make me think I am further and further away.

Congrats on the podium and the Kona encouragement you must have gleaned.

Very impressive performance Fred.  You looked strong when I saw you.  Considering how stacked the field was, I'd be VERY happy with a 3rd place podium and 24th OA.

Great work, Fred. Excellent race.

I'm sold. This sounds like an awesome race. Any event where the course itself polices against drafting and isn't branded is pure gold.

Nice, tough racing.  One of our local athletes did this race and said the course was more than appropriately named.

You can tell that you have this distance dialed in. Your training really dictates your race day ability and you can tell that you work hard when you're not racing. I can't even imagine a 31% grade hill. I did some 20% grades about a month ago and walked the last 1/3 of them. This race seems to take the 70.3 to a whole new level. I will not be doing this race, EVER. I'm glad that you had such a good day and congratulations on placing at such a tough and prestigious race. You have been a great mentor to have and I have learned a lot.

Nice report; it is really cool for you fast guys to give words of encouragement on the course...and kind for you to share the wisdom in reports like this.

I have to say, even though I didn't pass anyone with a name stenciled on their suit, I did pass a few guys with MDot tattoos and had a nice little smile to know that I was doing something right even if I wasn't crushing course records.  I loved your anecdote about the guy's name on his .

Congratulations on a great day.
