Total Time = 1h 58m 43s
Overall Rank = 1417/1738
Age Group = 20-25?
Age Group Rank = 91/105
Pre-race routine:

Ate a big breakfast at about 5:30am. Paced around like a nervous animal, met the folks I racked my bike near--they were so friendly. Did some more nervous pacing. Drank a crapload of Gatorade and pooped not once but twice.
Event warmup:

I ran for about 30 seconds, did some stretching. I was freaking out a lot so my HR was going nuts.
Swim
  • 23m 27s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

This rocked my freaking world, I swear. It ended up being the best part of the race. To think I couldn't even swim at all four months ago!! I did a lot more backstroke than I expected, and alternated with breaststroke. Very little free.I finished this part with a big dumb grin on my face...everyone clapped. I almost cried I was happy. And the best part was when some saintly volunteer unzipped my wetsuit without being asked...he'll never know how much that meant.
What would you do differently?:

Work on free so I feel more comfortable with it. Remember to pee either in the water or right before the swim...
Transition 1
  • 07m 51s
Comments:

The transition area to clip in was really small so that kind of sucked. I took my time during this because I was so happy that the swim was over. Also choked down part of a gel, and coughed the rest up.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go a little faster, but I was euphoric so it didn't really matter.
Bike
  • 50m
  • 20 kms
  • 24.00 km/hr
Comments:

I had to pee SO bad...thought serioulsy about high tailing it to the bushes.
What would you do differently?:

Get a road bike more than 1 week before my next tri. :) Do some longer rides and get a female seat.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Well I had to take a major leak so I stopped at the porta potty. Oh well...I was so happy that I was 2/3 done it dind't matter. :) I also choked down a little more gel with tons of gatorado so I woudn't puke it up.
What would you do differently?:

Pee sometime beforehand.
Run
  • 30m
  • 5 kms
  • 06m  min/km
Comments:

Two people passed me and said Wow you're a great pacer! To which I replied "Slow but steady..." We think I did about a 10 minute pace, which, if you look at my most recent 5k, is awesome because I did about an 11 minutes then, and here I had 2 more events under my belt! I felt really good, except at the end just for a second something snapped in my knee and I verbally yelled out "SHIT" when it happened. But I did get to pass about 6 people at the end because I had enough left to kick on the downhill.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster. Eventually. Someday. Maybe.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked the mile to the car. And damn did it hurt.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing! I did my best and felt AWESOME about this race! I am feeling so proud of myself right now...it's amazing. Can't wait to sign up for #2. I am so happy that I did it, physically, and I realize how positive I was the whle time...very exciting.

Event comments:

I had a freaking blast and thank you to all BT'ers who volunteered. You made a huge difference!.

Awesome job!! I was one of the green shirted volunteers at the start of the run up the first hill, right out of transition. You gals looked AWESOME. Soo inspriring. Next year - I'm going to be there with you running up that hill.

Nice race! And don't worry, your pre-race pit stops are normal. That's why they call it #2.   That sucks about the timing chip, but it doesn't sound like that detracted from the fun. See ya in Ft. Collins on 9/11?!

YEAH! that's so awsome....funny, I thought I heard someone yell SHIT real loud...hmmm... I also went home and slept for a long time! Don't know about you but my digestion is still messed up. Glad you liked the swim so much, we really ought to practice and you can show me what you did, cause I freaked the hell out! I'm soooooo proud though! I'm totally doing more, and I think I could really get into biking (if the funds ever materialize you know?). I'm thinking about doing a bunch of Dip N Dash's next year to practice the swim. Not sure I'm up for another one this season...but I might be talked into it. I loved this race, it was such a positive experience for me, glad you liked it too! WE'RE TRIATHLETE'S!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your first tri!!! You did a great job!

This seemed like a good laid-back race for first-timers - better atmosphere than the Danskin.  Sounds like you had fun, and that's most important.  Way to rock the swim!!

Sorry I didn't get to meet you and Squishy - we were tied up with volunteering from 6:30 til about 9:15, so didn't really have time to see everyone.

Congrats on your first Tri! you did great!  It sounds like a fun course...I might have to choose that one over Danskins next year! I can't wait to see you at Ft. Collins...we have the same run pace.

Congratulations on your first race! I felt that same euphoric high after my first race too. You walk around thinking "I am such a badass!." So, now you're addicted to tris like the rest of us!

Great job!
