I raced that year, too. I remember how good it felt to have on dry socks, and then immediately stepped in a mud puddle before I'd even gotten out of transition. I found it pretty amusing on the run to see a woman avoid running through a puddle, as if that mattered by then.

I also remember thinking a dry shirt would be nice after the swim, so I didn't have one under my wetsuit and changed into a "dry" one in T1. That was a waste of time and effort. Soaked by the time I got going on my bike.

Kinda fun to think about now. Made the next race that year seem pretty darn easy.

i can solve this problem.

the weather is always wrong.  there will be no thunder and the race will go on as planned.

that is all.

As per the email I just received:

The water temperature as of 415pm at Lake Anna Beach Marina is 68F.  The official water temperature will be taken each race morning by the USAT officials.  Bring your wetsuits!

With the rain on Saturday, do you think there's a chance that Sunday's swim could be canceled due to water quality issues?

Is anyone else just really not looking forward to this race at this point? Ugh, I have a ways to drive and a hotel and all that cost for a race that at best is gonna be very cold and rainy, and at worst cold, rainy and a duathlon (or canceled)! Weather, I bite my thumb at thee!!! Ok, rant/pity party over.

Yes, I may just decide to skip this one now.  I signed up originally for the OWS practice and the weather does not sound like it will be a fun race either way.

OK the last two posts make my day!!!

Seriously---I signed up for this race as an early season test/benchmark-not an "A" race but race setting test to base the rest of my training on leading up to AG Nats (Oly distance).  At this point I agree with you two-this race won't test/benchmark my fitness at this point.  I know plenty say HTFU but logically I have much more to lose from something bad  happening at this race then I could ever gain---and for those that say sometime you have to race in bad weather-yes you are right but I can train at anytime by myself in the rain/wind/thunder/tornado.  I'm very disappointed but maybe next year...

It wasn't that bad out there today.  The only thing was that trail section was pretty much like running on ice, very tough to get any traction through there.

This was my first triathlon/OWS so I thought the waves during the swim were pretty brutal. When I practiced the day before in Lake Anna it was completely calm, so the weather during the triathlon was pretty surprising to me.

I know a few people DQed due to not being able to finish the swim and needing a boat ride back.

All and all it wasn't too bad.  Had dificulty sighting on the last leg.  The mud on the trail was pretty slick too.

Volenteers really hung in there despite the cold wet conditions.

I dont understand keeping the trail portion in play. I think I have done Giant Acorn twice and Rumpass twice now and the other times the half way turn around was on the gravel road, so you start through the trail, come back to the gravel road, but turn around without going through the trail and finish through the trail. When I saw they started us off going down the street, I figured no trail cause it is nasty. Guess I was wrong. We could have started the way we started, going down Pleasants Landing and finish the same way, with a turn around on the gravel road. Much safer and much cleaner. Other than that, I enjoyed it.

For DQ. I did swim pass someone holding their calf and I called for a kayaker to come get them. Despite my horrendous racing time, I did feel good about helping someone.

My wife was spectating and said there were many people that didn't seem to realize that the bike was 2 laps.  She saw lots of people ride in after 1 lap.  She said most of them ended up having to run back to get their bike, so not sure if any of that would contribute to the high level of DQ's.

The mud on the trail was pretty slick too.

I did the Sprint on Sunday, and the trail wasn't any better... I saw one guy who must have lost his shoe, he was running with one in his hand.  In one spot I felt my shoe slipping off my heel but thankfully heard the loud "suck" sound as it came popping out of the mud hole to stay on my foot!

I'm surprised there weren't more face plants and ankle injuries... it was pretty nasty.

Nice sunny day for the sprint, but man the trail and transition areas were a freaking muddy mess.

The large quantity of DQs are definitely the folks who only biked one lap--you can see that their times would be impossible to achieve if riding 24 miles.

I was only in a relay (swim), but I heard that the volunteers/staff were not very clear at the point where the second lap started. Seems like lots of people were confused and only did one lap. I'm not sure how people don't realize that they only took 40 minutes on the bike instead of 80 minutes, but I guess the stress of race day affects us all differently.
