Delicious tasting BC water

The cereals I'm used to at home... like multigrain Cheerios, or Vector, or Kashi... NONE of them exist here

Skippy peanut butter

The incredible sushi in Vancouver... especially at Yamamoto on Robson Street, or the Asahi Ya, or Tamoyama, or Yokohama, or isushi... OMG - NOM NOM NOM!!!

Cheerwine.  I'm not a big soda drinker but when I'm in NC I always have to get some of this stuff.  Love it.  Can't get it in Florida.

Tim-Tams.   I had these cookies in Australia years ago and fell in love.  Sadly, I have yet to find them here even though someone told me some company was going to start importing them.

I lived in Germany for 2 years, and became extremely fond of:

- maultaschen  (a regional kind of ravioli served in a yummy broth)

- zwiebelkuchen  (basically, onion quiche, with bits of bacon)

- laugenbroetchen  (little rolls baked with a pretzel crust)

- spaetzle  (quickly made noodle dish, topped with melted butter)

Sigh.....

Every time I go visit my family in Milwaukee, I have to get two things:

  1. Kopp's Custard - SO good and there's no good frozen custard anywhere near me
  2. Usinger's Brats - I usually take home about 10 pounds of brats and that lasts for most of the summer.

Most of mine are Philly Based

- Jersey Silver Queen Corn. People in the Midwest refuse to believe that New Jersey could have better sweet corn. Nothing out here comes close, and I've bought corn from farm stands in Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois. I'm a bit of a corn snob. I argue that you can't really tell if it's good corn when it's drowned in butter and covered in salt. Good corn doesn't need anything.

- Tastykake pies. My wife found the cupcakes at walmart, but it's the pies that are the best. My parents send us a box at Christmas and for my birthday. Speaking of which, I have to remind my mom that my birthday is coming up.

- Good Pizza (NY style, from New York or Philly)

- Cheesesteaks

- Soft Pretzels. The longer they've been sitting at the roadside stand, the more exhaust has been absorbed and the better they are.

- Wawa Half and Half (half iced tea, half lemonade). Arizona's Arnold Palmer is a suitable alternative, but not the same thing.

- Yuengling. I should go into business smuggling it into Wisconsin. Last trip home, my neighbor asked me to bring him 3 cases. He's limited to one along with the other people who want us to bring them some. Not to mention we need a couple cases for ourselves. Do you think I would get in trouble if I got stopped with a uhaul trailer full of beer?

- and last but not least, Pork Roll! Pork roll, egg and cheese on a fresh kaiser roll is the greatest breakfast ever.

SOOOO easy to make spaetzle from scratch ... I get them at the resto where I win quiz so I can have them for free , but remind me to post the recipe. Then just burn some butter ... MMMMMMMMMM

Yanti! Don't burn the butter, just brown it a little! But it is easy to make and VERY delicious.

There is a food cart outside of Drexel medical on 14th street that makes these. Not that it made a lasting impression or anything...

KENTUCKY'S BOURBON BARREL ALE!

I went to KY, worked there for 4mo, and fell in love. I mean, who can't love beer that's aged in unwashed bourbon barrels? Wow!

And it's 9% Alcohol by volume.

Being in South Carolina, I yearn for the YES network.  But there's no way I'm going to pay double for my cable just to get one station unlocked.

- Steamed Maryland blue crabs with lots and lots of Old Bay served with vinegar and extra Old Bay, just in case
- Real crab cakes served in a restaurant where when the question "is there filler?" is asked, the server not only knows what you mean, but also responds with a resounding "NO!"

Yes to Blue Crabs.

With Old Bay and melted butter, maybe a little cocktail sauce if you need it.

We can't catch those out here.

"Hot Mamas" Hot Sauce (she also sells BBQ sauce and jellies)

I first got the products last year at the Outdoor Show. This year I went back with intent to get some more (and see the other vendors) but she wasn't there! Her products are tasty, made with all natural ingredients and salt free.

I grew up just south of Seattle and there is a little Greek Restaurant called Spyro's. Best Greek food I've ever had. All of the Greek places around here are crap compared to it. Is it real authentic Greek food? I don't know or care.

I lived in Australia for 2 years and I desperately miss their sweet chili sauce and lemon-lime & bitters drink.  While I was there I missed Shreddies cereal and Montreal steak spice.  And some random chocolate bars too, like Reese's peanut butter cups.
