Subject: How much did you pay for your bike fit?

Got a quote yesterday for $200, which is a wee bit out of range from what I had budgeted.  I was thinking it would be $75-$100.  I'm wondering if I shopped around, what other prices I would be quoted - but is $200 about right?  Just curious.

In many cases, you will get what you pay for.

What's the experience/certifications of your fitter, and what does this bike fit entail/include?

I paid $175.00 for my fit and subsequent tweeking/ re-fits. I have been back twice and my LBS has been really good about getting the fit dialed in for me.

$75-$100 is a very low-end fitting.

I've paid $100 for a VERY basic bike fitting (cycling position, eyeballing only, no measurements, although he did spend a lot of time with me)

I've paid $300 for a FIST-certified fitter, converting road bike into tri bike setup and fitting for that, all kinds of goniometric measuring and I got all of them written down.

$150 and it was worth every penny. Fitter did a phenominal job, including saying my original bike wasn't going to work, and I needed a bigger frame. Resulted in me moving from a 2010 model to a 2011 since they didn't have the right 2010 frame size in stock (at no added cost). Every time I ride, I appreciate the effort put in. Overall it was a couple hours to get it done.

Mine was about $200 and done by Nate Loyal, a respected cyclist coach and fitter in the Los Angeles area.

Let's start with what kind of a bike do you have? (Road, hybrid, mountain, tri bike, year/make/model/size if you know it)

Do you already have clipless pedals and shoes on it?

$250 for a "video fit" with dots stuck on to measure angles. They also had the eyeball $150 fit and the FIST fit for $350.

I rode a century ride less than 2 weeks after he raised the hell out of the seat and such and it was more comfortable and with less fatigue than I had felt on that bike basically ever. Worth every cent.

I have a Schwinn Fastback road bike.  I purchased it used in 2009 from a girl who used it for a couple sprint triathlons but didn't spend a lot of time on the bike. I'm guessing it's a 2008 or 2007.  It looks like Schwinn doesn't make them anymore, judging by the lack of presence of the bike on their website.  I'm actually not quite sure of the frame size.  I'm 5'3", and the girl I bought it from was a couple inches shorter than me and changed out the stem to a shorter stem.

I have clipless pedals and shoes, and I don't really have any aches/pains, except a bit on one elbow on longer rides (1.75 hours) that I spend a lot of time in the drops for.  I've only been cycling regularly for 2 months - starting average speed was 12-13 mph and I'm up to ~15-15.5 mph. I'm aiming to get to 16.6 mph before my Olympic distance triathlon in August but have no idea if that goal is overly ambitious, or if a simple bike fitting will get me into a more powerful position and I'll make that gain overnight.

I also have two sets of profile aerobars that are sitting in a box of old components (my husbands best friend gave him - he was going to sell them until I said I'd like them) that I was thinking of bringing to the fitting to see how what would be entailed in converting the bike.  I'm guessing doing an aerobar conversion would be an additional cost during a fit?

I want to say $200.  It was a several hour appointment with lots of measurements and tweaks to my fit.  Plus, I came back a few weeks later after riding for awhile to make adjustments.  Worth every penny.

It was a gift, but $175 from a "Master BG FIT Technician" - this included two return trips for swapping out saddles and re-positioning my cleats.

EDIT: they have upped their price since then; I think it's $200 now.

It's not so much the conversion that'll cost you as the components. Slapping aerobars on a road bike doth not a tri bike make. You'd be looking at a forward-facing seatpost and possibly a new stem as well, possibly trying out a different saddle, too.

It's *really* important that your fitter has a great deal of experience in how to do bike fits for *triathlon* and how to put your bike, and you, into a tri configuration.

Considering you seem to be serious about tri, and you've gotten up to nearly 2-hour rides, I would advise to sink some dough into this. as others have said, worth every penny. Get a recommendation from good triathletes in your area if you can (BT State forums, local tri club, etc.)

$125 with my tri club discount.

Hey mine was fit with a PowerTap added for the fitting. I went from a more agressive aero fit to one that maximizes my power & wattage. The only race (sprint) I have completed - i bumped my average mph up and my time came down on the course. Best $125 i have spent this year.

Was fitted on my road bike for $100 by a BG certified tech.  It included a refit.  He took measurements and used video/computer.

I got 2 free fittings from the shop I bought my bike at, but they fitted me on it as if I was on a road bike both times(they just eyeballed it, no measurements). On Monday I drove 2 hours to a tri fitter and I am so happy I took that trip, took measurements, used dots, worth every penny, $60.

I forgot the actual price. Mine was about $125 with a club discount. Normally it's about $165 for a regular fit. If you want a "power" fit it's about $295 without a discount.

For what its worth, I paid $90. I got the fitting done at Revolutions Cyclery and they used the "Fit Kit"

Took about 2hrs to complete with all types of measurements and a nice computer print out of my bike setup. Best money I've spent so far. They fixed the numbness in my fingers and increased my speed.

PS> This was for a fitting on my bike, not a new purchase. New purchase fittings cost more and take a little longer to complete.

Mike

$100-$150 for crude fit...  usually 'included' with purchase of bike... which for me was swap stem and adjust saddle (that was free) on the road bike... and that sucked...

Later at a different LBS $350 for a FIST/ Serotta/ yadda yadda yadda three hour fit with video with unlimited checks...  only $100 if you purchase a bike.
I had to swap out the saddle ($100), the handlebars (long story but the original bike store had the wrong size on there and I ended up throwing a fit and still had to replace for $50), and the stem ($50)...
Then I bought my P2 and I had to swap out my saddle ($200) and add pedals.

Honestly, the last one was worth EVERY penny!!

I bought aerobars for my road bike and decided to have a well respected LBS fit me to that setup.  I was quoted $150 which I was O.K. with.  After over an hour of tweaking + changing stems etc. he said that's the best fit he could do for the geometry of my road bike which was not optimum (that's the road bike I've got to live with for awhile).  So he reduced the price to $90 or $100 which I thought was very fair.
