Swim
Comments: I have never been in a beach start swim before. In my wave, men and women of my age group started together. I don't know why, but some people at the front ran into the water and then stopped. I practically had to shove them over to get by. Things were rather violent in my wave- a lot of flailing around going on. I got kicked hard in the head once, but oh well. After the last buoy, we swam into weeds too....bleeeech. That swim was definately longer than 500m...most people thought it felt like 750m and I agree. Jeepers! No wonder the beginners were flailing around. What would you do differently?: Nothing...I did pretty well considering!! I think it is hilarious that swimming is my best event. Transition 1
Comments: Run with bike?? OH YEAH...A little T1 suprise!!! To get to the bike mount line, we had to run for about 800m through grass, a gravel parking lot and an uphill slope out of the park to the road. This was added to the bike time, so everyone's bike split is about 8 minutes slow (had to get back to T2 the same way!) What would you do differently?: Ask the race directors what the h*ll they were thinking...there were half and full iron distances going on too and those athletes were NOT impressed! Bike
Comments: I am now minus one water bottle, as I dropped mine near the end (thankfully). What a klutz!! Transition 2
Comments: T2 was added into the run time Oh yeah...I got to my rack and here are THREE friends/family members leaning on my spot and chatting with the person next to me. I don't know if she quit or was a relay person...but I yelled "GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!" and practically knocked them down. Somersault races really have to get security people in the T zones...that was unecessary. Run
Comments: No mishaps...yay! That was a fast run for me. Post race
Warm down: Wandered around and found my KMS buddies. Formed a cheering squad for everyone who went by and generally were rowdy. Hollered at Michel coming down the finish chute. What limited your ability to perform faster: The stupid long run out and back to the bike mount/dismount Last updated: 2005-09-03 12:00 AM

I woke up at 5am. Went to Timmy's and drove 30 min to race site. I was very early, so I got a nice transition spot at the end of the rack. Watched the Iron distance athletes start, wandered around, socialized with KMS folks and found Michel in the port a potty line!
Ran a bit and stretched.
