I'll look for you bobby.  Will see you one of these days.  Did Rev3 Quassy and LP and missed you but I'll see you at one of these things eventually.

Jersey!

I went down there a couple years ago to pace my friend  who was trying to BQ.  It was Africa hot and even the pacers were blowing up.  Miserable...I'm very glad I wasn't running the entire thing.

One of my running buddies was there that year. It was his first marathon and it too over 5 hours. He was so dejected that another of our training group who was moving asked if I could encourage him to keep running. That was in May. He ran like 4:45 in November in the cooler weather, and should run in the low 3:20's (maybe better)  this weekend. Talk about HTFU!

My bad experience was related to my running partner, now ex-GF

Drove up Kelly Drive to Eakins Oval this morning on the way to work and started ticking off the final miles in my mind while giving myself the pep talk along the way.  Bring it!!!

My wife is running the half (her first) - so there is a real interesting dynamic and bundle of nervous energy in my household these days.

Best of luck to everyone on Sunday - looks like we will have a great day.

I was just resigning myself to the fact we'd forever stay cyber buddies, never actually making contact in the physical world; but perhaps maybe someday we will meet.    Truth is, my 5 & 7 year old usurp all my time at races, except the time I spend racing.  If you're going to the Philly Zoo Saturday, you'll see me there. :

Oh, I mean to say hi at Rev3 Quassy on the Bike Course, but you passed right by me at Warp Speed!

00:07:16:29 until I hit the expo.

Technically until I meet up with people, grab a beer, THEN head over to the expo

If anyone wants to say hi, look for a group of geeky people hanging out in front of Philbert the pig at reading Terminal Market.

Good luck to you, nothing like a house full of taper madness. I'm going to walk down there later and take a look when I head to the gym.

Thinking of your avatar reminded me of a difference between Marine Corps and Philly. At MCM they played Born to Run, in Philly it's the Rocky theme. I'll take The Boss over Sly any day.

I am having minimal taper madness since I am not really looking at this like a race. I have scaled back to the half from the full, and am approaching it like a supported training run. Best of luck to all who are actually racing. Should be great conditions! Here's to my ankle holding up on the run, and still feeling good on Monday

Given what you were going through just a couple weeks ago, it's good to hear that you are actually running. Stay healthy and have fun.

Not racing here either, I am starting to feel the accumulated miles of the season and just want to have a decent run and feel good afterwards. I have brunch and beer dinner plans with friend and family that day!

Oh, and before I forget.  For EVERYONE running this race.  This video is mandatory viewing.  MANDATORY!!

Click me and crank the volume!!!

And here is video 2, for good measure

Well you will be hearing that for hours on Sunday. Personally I'm sick of it, but then again every time I go running I have to deal with the tourists getting their picture taken in front of the statue. I wonder how many realize there is a world-class art museum just behind Rocky. Yo!

For those of us who have grown sick of and can no longer draw inspiration from Rocky, some alternatives:

Easiest Philly marathon packet pickup ever. Drove around the block once and got a primo street spot. Ducked in to the Reading Terminal and had breakfast, walked across the street to the Convention Center, no lines at the numbers or bags, then back to the car all before my hour of parking expired. It pays to get there early.

FYI, you can park in the parking lot across the street for free if you spent $10 in the Reading Terminal. Just get it endorsed by a vendor.

I agree though, packet pickup was easy! Much better than when they had us outside for an hour queued up around the stadiums.

Clothes are laid out, number and gels on race belt, and coffee and oatmeal measured out and on standby in the kitchen.

Goodnight everyone and good luck!

Back home, showered and getting ready to chow down on pumpkin waffles.

Had a great race all things considered. Weather was amazing, course support was great, and my ankle held up just fine. Even feels good right now. My calves on the other hand....

Didn't do my normal race day nutrition and that may have contributed to my calves practically seizing up after I finished.

Unofficial time from my Garmin:
13.38
1:57:35
8:47 avg

Right around where I wanted to be.

Showered and fed, and about to pass out. Had my son and mom as the cheering section this morning and I saw them 3 times! That was great, plus my chef-in-training son made us a heck of a brunch. And they got to see me cramp up and drop to the ground on the walk home!

I did the full in 3:37:46. Pretty happy considering MCM 3 weeks ago and then getting a cold. I really felt it after mile 18, but the last 2 miles were better.

Turkey trot on Thursday, yikes

Around mile 10, the stupid calf strain came back,  but seemed to stabilize over the next couple miles.  Decided to go for it and do the whole race.  Eventually everything hurt, so I kind if forgot about the bum calf.

Ended up with 3:43:30, so I'm happy with that for my first full mary, especially since the training schedule blew up with the calf problem.

Came in at 3:45; about 10 mins more than I wanted to be, but a good enough for a first time.  Held the right pace for me until I came out of the Yunk - felt the calves starting to go and out of nowhere - boom - my right hamstring seizes up and takes me to the ground.  Walked a bit ran a mile or so and it happened again.  Sucked it up on Kelly Drive and slow pedaled it in.  No idea why it happened other than just not enough training.

Very sad that two people died at the end of course - a 40 yro dropped after crossing the line and a 21 yro man collapsed a 1/4 from the finish line.

Thanks for sharing the news about those two runners. I hadn't heard about that yet and it's definitely a very sad thing to hear.

Congratulations to everyone out there today! There are some super fast people on this thread and you all did great!

I hit my goal of 9:00/mile at a metronome pace and came in at 9:01/mile and 3:56 to finish. A new member of the sub four club!

Hope everyone hear enjoys some recovery time and lots of turkey. Good luck to all on whatever you have next!

Glad everyone did well.  I rolled the dice on a BQ and was on pace for a sub 3:10 up until mile 15.  Then the wheels came off.   First I had a GI issue and ended up in a port-a-potty.  Then my groin injury I've been battling for the last 3 weeks reared it's ugly head.  I held on though for a 3:28.  The last 4 miles were not pretty!    I'm still very happy though.  The weather was PERFECT and the crowd support was stellar.

Saturday we went to the Philadelphia Zoo.  I highly recommend it.  We saw a lot of cool animals close up.
