Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: Blood Type Diet for Type I'm not in that camp. I don't care who eats what. Nobody will bother you at my house if you don't eat, we'll be too busy eating. Funny though, my expereince with vegetarians is that they kow what's best for everyone to eat. Edited by Left Brain 2011-10-20 10:28 AM |

No no no..... tell them you don't care if they are gluten free! All you have is GLUTEN and there is no scientific reason to be gluten free! (according to this thread) there is a huge difference between having celiac disease or a gluten intolerance or a peanut allergy or diabetes or some legitimate dietary restriction, and following a fad diet that doesn't actually have a scientific/medical basis. |

Totally agree... but if you are hosting... and specifically ask how you can meet their fad diet needs (which is what the OP's gf was asking)... you should probably be willing to accommodate. |

Master 1441 North edge of nowhere | Subject: RE: Blood Type Diet for Type Apparently nobody has an opinion on this (cue cheesy TV commercial voice)...but WAIT, it gets even better... I just got off the phone with my GF, who had just left the bike shop after speaking with Mr. LBS about the dietary complications. Apparently he is a vegetarian (I knew this already), but...wait for it... ...he doesn't like vegetables. All he eats is pasta, rice and cereal. (how the heck do you survive on just those three things? I have no idea. I think that's even beyond vegan). I thought the whole things was becoming too much of a production, and I'm all for them bringing their own food, but It's not my event. GF has almost given up and is going to serve pistachios, mozzarella balls and rice crackers. She and I can go to dinner before-hand and have real food! One more item added to my list of why I don't throw parties. |

Nah, they're good folks, just freaky with their diets. Even he jokes that he's a picky-as-heck eater, and she's worse than he. I told her, just let them bring their own food and it'll all be fine, but nooooo, she has to be a good hostess. Yah, that didn't work out so well. pitt83 - 2011-10-20 5:21 PM Antelope, artichoke, asparagus, almonds, allspice.... I think I'm the only one in the group who would eat antelope. Heck, I'd eat anteater and I have eaten alligator. Hmmm, foods that start with "A": ...allspice, armadillo, algae, apples... She DID think of apples and almond butter, so maybe you're not that far off. |

That having been said, I would lean toward serving something that is in keeping with her dietary restrictions, as calling her a moron would likely be in conflict with the Rules of Entertaining. I think that depends on who you are entertaining. I, for one, would be highly entertained watching the host call out the guest for stupid. Maybe this is why I don't get invited to many parties.... |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Blood Type Diet for Type All I am going to say is that there have been a LOT of crackpot ideas that we only THOUGHT were crackpot ideas because we didn't YET understand the science behind them. If a way of eating works for YOU, it works for YOU. There's a darn lot of unnecessary and rude sarcasm on this thread. That being said, if you have a variety of foods available just about ANY dietary restriction will be able to find SOMETHING to eat. "Mixed up" foods like already prepared salads, casseroles, etc. are a bad idea because any one single ingredient can ruin a food for a person with food restrictions. Salad "bars", sauces on the side, plain meat/veggies are all GREAT ideas that people can pick and choose from to suit their own preferences. Not everyone can eat "anything". |

Master 1441 North edge of nowhere | Subject: RE: Blood Type Diet for Type Jennifer, your mention of food restrictions is one of my big concerns with any time I'm serving guests. I haven't asked Mr. LBS why he's a vegetarian (or why he hates vegetables) because I figure it isn't any of my business, but if it's due to health challenges and his body doesn't react well to meats (which I've heard of), then I'd look like an idiot if I criticized. That, and I figure if I want people to respect my freedom of choice, I kinda have to reciprocate. As for the diet Mrs. LBS is on, the only reason I'll use the term "freaky" in reference to their dietary habits is because she cycles through various diets without much in the way of apparent consistency. And his being a vegetarian but not liking vegetables is kinda funny. I'm all for the blood type diet, but I'm O+, so I get to eat steak and potatoes all I want on that diet. |
