Total Time = 15h 05m 15s
Overall Rank = 1723/2058
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 184/219
Pre-race routine:

Attended pasta dinner and athlete meeting on Thursday evening.
Swam the course on Friday AM and drove the bike course later.
Prepared transition bags and special needs bags/bike to rack.
Ate oatmeal, banana, clif bar and drank a hot chocolate.
Event warmup:

Just took a quick dip to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 59m 20s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very poor start for me. Took me about 200 yards to get my stride. The mass start was quite overwhelming.
What would you do differently?:

I would have started just a bit more to the left. As it was I was way over to the left which was okay, I just needed to be on the fringe and RELAX!!
Transition 1
  • 07m 40s
Comments:

I enjoyed the wetsuit strippers. They made quick work of getting my wetsuit off! I didn't try to speed through the changing of clothes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 6h 16m 57s
  • 112 miles
  • 17.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Flatted on mile 48 and got baptized on changing a tubular. I had borrowed a set of Zipps and did not feel comfortable with changing a flat. I was slow and probably could have saved a few more minutes if I was practiced.
Oh well.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 06m 54s
Comments:

I liked the fact that volunteers took my bike and had my bag ready for me!
They were awesome! I am now spoiled.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 7h 34m 27s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 17m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Ah... the run. My weak spot.
I felt good on the first 2 miles then got nauseated and slowed down gradually over the rest of the course. Could not drink or eat after mile 13 and slowed to a snail's pace. Just determination to finish kept me going.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

One liter of normal saline.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nausea.

Event comments:

It feels awesome to be an Ironman! Sprints and Oly's never looked so easy!

John, I'm sorry we didn't get to meet in PCB.  Your swim time was incredible.  You're an Ironman, dude!  Congrats.  I think I remember seeing you on the side of the road changing your tire.  Sorry about the misfortune, but you overcame the obstacles and finished.
