Age Group Rank = 208/273
Pre-race routine:

Got up, had coffee and PB on crumpet and a tiny piece of corn bread while surfing BT and waiting for OnTheRun to come pick me up :)
Event warmup:

Arrived race site, waited for the other BTers to show up an jumped around to keep myself warm. It was snowing. Saw TypeAGirlPilot, Max, TriAgain and D.Z. Walked to start line.
Run
  • 52m 39s
  • 5 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Fist mile was with the 5-k people. Started slow as there were some 7000 runners. Good pace for the rest of the course. A bit slower than my usual training pace but it was cold and snowing. Can't run too fast on the down hill as it was slippery.
Oh yeah, all of us cross the line at the same time!!
What would you do differently?:

This is more like a BTer hang out than a race. I was comfortable running at that speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Cooled down about a minute after stopping. Saw c2df and isis54 after the race. Dunkin Donuts was giving out bagels and we eat them. Hung out with the gang. DZ did the 5k and had to leave right after so we missed him after the 1st mile (5k took a different course). Eat some more snacks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

wet road and snow.

Event comments:

Nice race. Best part is an apple pie for all finishers!

Congratulations on your first 5 miler! You ran it with such ease that I thought you've certainly done this distance many many times before!

I hope it didn't take you long to warm up after the race, I was soooo cold and wet by the time I got to my car! Enjoy your apple pie and thanks for bringing those awesome pastries!

I know you don't celebrate this holiday normally, but hopefully as long as we are all in the area, you can make this race a tradition!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I was very tempted to go a cheer you guys up but 1) I couldn't get a car/ride and 2) I was going to be very tempted to register and run! I am so jealous you got to hang with BTers but more jealous of the apple pie!

It was great meeting you!  Awesome job on your first 5-miler -- piece of cake (er, pie?) right! Thanks, too for the yummy pastries

We all forgot to mention that we got these goofy turkey visors (see pics)  Brought extra home to the kids-- they loved them.

See you at some future races!

Hey - nice meeting you DK!! And all the others. Sorry I missed the after fun - I was having fun of my own. Sitting in the parking lot for 45 minutes waiting to get out. I was trying to get home to help my wife with the Turkey Day prep and kids. Didn't end up happening.

It too was my first group race - that first mile killed me. Uphill the whole way. Argh - I don't have hills like that ANYWHERE in my training route. I guess I'll have to add one. Anyone have a backhoe?
