Hmmmm, January = swim, February = run, therefore March must = (_____________)

You've guessed it -- that thing that has been gathering dust during the cold months.

Based upon the suggestion of fellow February Florida Force member Scott (Oneword), March is all about over-emphasis on the bike with the following rules:

RULES:

1) To even out the playing field, since it is winter on much of the North American continent, both indoor and outdoor miles will count equally.

2) Any type of bicycle/trainer/etc. may be used to tabulate miles.

3) Teams may be formed starting right around ... now!

Playing off that small tournament that Ole Miss has muddled into once (yes, once), thinking that we could team up by Athlete Conferences -- SEC, ACC, Big-10, etc.  If your school does not have a big conference, you can align with the conference of your choice.

4) To the winners will go everlasting virtual glory ... and the ability to chose the losing teams' avatar for the month of April, beginning - appropriately so - on April Fool's Day.

5) Result to be sent to Team Captain by each Sunday night. Team Captains to post results weekly on to-be-created March Madness Weekly Results thread  on Mondays.

6) Winners are determined by the percentage of team participants that reached their goal.  Should there be a tie, then by gross team mileage completed ... including the miles compiled over the 100% goal threshold. (Added incentive to keep spinning if you reach your goal early.)

6) Smack talking is, of course, encouraged.

I'll lead the SEC team by compiling the weekly results and tracking.

Any takers?  If so then sign-up here ...

Also ... recv'd a question via PM as to the option of choosing either a time or mileage goal.  Think either would be a valid option.

In the event of a too-close-to-call situation, we would add up total time and miles to determine the winning team.

Scott:

Hotty Toddy! Glad to have you ... great cycling volume for March.  That ought to keep you off your feet + rest your knees from the February Run Challenge!

Even though I'm a Big 10 graduate (Iowa) I think I'll toss my lot with the SEC team

400 miles for March. How does that grab ya?

I'm in for the Mountain West Conference.  What...no other bikers from there?  If not, I'll orphan and go with whoever takes me....

So, you get credit for going over 100%?

Some poeple reached their run goal 2 weeks into the February challenge.

The 100% cap was put on to keep people from sandbagging.

True that ... how about something along the lines of the challenge volume must equal or exceed the previous month's volume (be it either time or distance, whichever is chosen)?

As the point of the challenge is to start ramping up your volume + concentration on the one discipline, this seems to fit the bill.

The flip side is that the challenge actually works and you exceed your monthly goal (as I did during the run challenge - even though my monthly goal well exceeded my previous month's volume).

Thoughts?   Any other suggestions?

Lisa:

The North Central Conference might be a difficult team to fill ... want to align yourself in the Big 12?  Both Kansas and Kansas State are members of that conference.

EDIT: Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! A bike for b-day is an awesome present.

Sign me up for 100 miles with the SEC team. That's if they will have a transplant Hoosier/Big Ten fan.

Without seeking to offend those that belong to other conferences, in the interest of expediency and appropriate team building I am thinking that we ought to limit the number of conferences to a no more than 6.

As such, I believe the following are the five athletic conferences in terms of both gross number of students and in what is probably the descending order of NCAA infractions received:

SEC
ACC
Big 12
PAC 10
Big 10
Big East

If you are unfamiliar with the conferences and the schools that belong to each, see:http://www.ticketcity.com/ncaasports.asp for a down and dirty listing.

For the SEC Team, I have:

Huengsolo
Oneword
HornJM
PER6594

If any want to align with the other conferences due to collegiate loyalty, I understand ... after all, I went to Ole Miss and still believe before each and every football game - regardless of opponent -  that this time, just maybe, the Mighty Rebels will pull it off!

Not having done a challenge ever before (... gasp !) , hope I don't sign up for something I regres later . But, am thinking of signing up for 100 miles and hoping there's a PAC 10 team ?

Is 100 miles too less to be meaningful ? Am just starting to get back in shape after the winter months and I need some motivation

With flaky NCAL weather , most of my miles are probably going to be indoor for now .

No offense taken.  I'll drop Mountain West.  Since I lived in Battle Creek, MI for 8 years (go Spartans) and live in Minnesota now, sign me up for the Big 10.  As long as no U of M Wolverines are on my team (kidding)...

I'll have to think about mileage.  Probably somewhere between 75 - 200 (pretty wide range, LOL).

Sign me up for Pac 10. I have no clue about college sports, but followed the aforementioned link and believe I'm in the right conference.

I'd like to shoot for at least 250 miles. Although I've recently ordered a trainer, I have no way to measure my miles if I ride indoors on a rainy day. Can I track both time and mileage?

I am willing to join in here. But I have no clue about distance.

I am willing to sign up for 328 minutes.

I would be Big 10, if there are any out there. You know tOSU is my home state.
