Total Time = 3h 24m 25s
Overall Rank = 2475/??
Age Group = F35-39
Age Group Rank = 133/169
Pre-race routine:

put on wetsuit, hang out. I met run4yrlif. Catch up with BTers waiting for wave starts. I was upset I couldn't make a deposit in the porta potty. Not enough coffee I guess.
Event warmup:

got wet. Went in the water, stretched...
Swim
  • 34m 43s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

rough swim. Sighting was horrible. Made it to the first buoy, easy. Then it got worse. Too many folks treading water and breast stroking. By the time I got past the left turn, it was easy. The waves didn't push me over even though they're coming parallel at us. It was much, much nicer on the way out. I swallowed MORE water at the Saturday practice than today. Took two minutes off last year's time, and last year was pretty flat!
What would you do differently?:

learn to be more aggressive. I was for a bit, but could've been more. Swam over some people, hit some. Came out practically unscathed.
Transition 1
  • 03m 17s
Comments:

had to search for vaseline again- bodyglide didn't prevent wetsuit rash under arms which hurt like hell. slathered on before bike. sat down to get wetsuit off ankles and threw it on the lovely concrete pole.
What would you do differently?:

not much. Is it normal to get wetsuit burn?
Bike
  • 1h 28m 45s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.80 mile/hr
Comments:

This bike was hard. I had forgotten to put my computer on after we were halfway to swim start. FUGEDDITABOUTIT. So I did the whole thing no idea how I was doing or how far into it I was. It was windy and I had to catch myself, some parts were flat out fast, traffic control was much better than last year. Got no penalties :) played cat and mouse with some chick who was spinning really fast and her hips were swinging too much. My feet got numb again. No feeling in them when I got off the bike. I have never wanted to get off my bike so badly before. Passed and got passed by about the same number of folks. Knocked three minutes off last year's time.
What would you do differently?:

learn to corner at faster speeds. Learn to speed up better.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

nothing big really. more vaseline. grabbed a gel, stuck it in my bra and off I go.
Run
  • 75m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

NOw, folks, here is where it all falls apart. Notice my rankings: 94,123,133... see a trend here? I so suck at running. I just haven't gotten better. Let's see... I violated the #1 LAW OF TRIATHLON: Nothing new on race day. I had shoes but I needed lock laces, so I put them on last night and they felt great. What I didn't anticipate was the swelling from the heat. They were tight! Lisa(GatorGirl22) passed by me when I was down adjusting them. My feet hurt the whole run, they had gotten numb on the bike and couldn't get back. Saw Ron the GrandPooBah of BT, Rich, Possum, and Renee snuck by me, did a roundabout and came to grab my ass. anyways back to my run... it was painful the first two miles. I was incredibly slow. Got a side stitch. Got passed by EVERYONE. I want a TnT coach- those folks can run. I ADDED 1:51 to last year's run time.
What would you do differently?:

run faster. Try to make more Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday run club workouts. I need to take advantage of this free coaching stuff. Tues are tempo or hills, Thurs is track, and Sat is just run.
Post race
Warm down:

my running coach was the first person to approach me at the finish. We hung out and recapped our races before Tom finally made his way up to us. He finished 16th in his 50-54 AG. Walked around, food line was looong, saw Sharon, got our bikes, walked to BTCentral.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I suck at running and my bike is hum-hum. That's basically it.

Event comments:

I wish the water stops were at the mile markers and not before them.

enough with the criticalities already. You did great. Great bike work and your swim effort was the bomb. Way to hang with Renee, as good a swim gage as there is.

That was a GREAT swim under adverse conditions! BTW, of all the butts I slapped this weekend, yours was the tightest. Kudos!

mental after event notes and observations:

-leave kids at home next year.  I left the BT afterparty in a huff, hanging my head in shame.
-Ron does NOT look like his avatar.
-everyone's a really nice person in real life.
-Karl is older than I thought he was.
-I should of had more beer at the BT afterparty.
-Rick has cool tshirts.
-dish has great food.
-Renee has a thing for my *** and I like it.
-I'm freakin' slow on the run.
-considering buying a sleeved wetsuit. Is wetsuit burn a fact of life? big owie.
-I want a new bike. Will different gearing be faster?
-I didn't get to thank robit (Adam) for something.  I'm such a snob.
-my husband talks a lot. I knew that already.
-leave kids at home next year. seriously.
-run more. get that HRM and learn to use it.
-even though my hotel room was GREAT, it was 12 miles away from the site.  IT was huge, cheap-129/night. I could fit 6 BT'ers and all their gear in there easy.
-I passed out in the car on the way home, went right to bed at about 630pm and stayed there till 5am.
-My new BT trisuit is way cool!  After the race, in Sue's room, looking in the mirror, there was a strategically placed salt spot.  Way to draw attention to my cootchie.

Welcome to the "I Suck At Running" club!  Still, you did great, and I heard it was kinda windy so your bike time is good, you woulda been 18 mph or more on a calm day!  Wish I could have been there.

Wetsuit burn isn't a fact of life. Maybe you need a different brand; did you put bodyglide on before the swim? Sorry to hear that.

Nothing new on race day (unless you don't care about the race and want to see if something works)!!

Way go go on improving your swim time despite the conditons!

You did great, I can't believe the attitude you had on the swim (same with Renee). And your not a snob, after the day you had I'm sure there were lots of things going through your mind. I wish I could have stayed longer, but parenthood can never be put on hold.  I'll be starting my lunchtime workouts at Kingsway next week.  After a few TRI's this year, I'm signing up for St. A 2007. Keep up the great work.

Sorry I didn't get to see you at the BT afterparty for very long...me and my silly Red Sox addiction.

Seriously....you did FABULOUS this weekend!!!!   Great to finally meet you!

Great job. I use body glide in the areas where I got chafed a few years ago. Seems to help. Glad your kids got together and entertained mine for a while. We had to hose them down when we got home!!

Cut it out with all this self criticism already...you ran a phenomenal race!  It was great to see and party with you again!  Oh, and I'm gonna take that line about my age as a compliment...

Something else you didn't know about me...I got chafed in places I didn't know I had.  I think we all could have buttered up a li'l better.

Christine, that was a great race! Wish I'd been there. Just tie the kids to the bike outside next time..that's what I do. Great theft deterrent.

Way to go Christine! You looked great on the run when I saw you. I think anyone looked better than me at that point. I was literally checking my watch every minute to see if I was any closer to the finish line! I love the BT trisuit you got- is it comfy? I'll have to see about ordering one. Great to see you again, keep up the good training!

Awesome race Christine!  Way to make it through the bike without a bike computer.  That would drive me nuts!  Don't feel bad- my run splits went downhill quick!  Way to tough it out!  I wish I could have had more time to hang out with you- my weekend was pretty busy with TNT stuff!

I'm the President of the ISAR Track Club.  And this year I was even worse then usual.  But I have a legit excuse for a change.
