Subject: SYSTEM UPDATE 12/19 - 9PM EST

There will be a system update this evening beginning at approximately 9pm.

The site and training logs may be offline for up to fifteen minutes.

The update will include some new features, bug fixes, and a puppy.

We apologize for any inconvenience. It is our fondest desire that this will be quick and painless allowing you to get back to enjoying the site as soon as possible while allowing us to get to bed at a decent hour.

It's over except for one or two small things that will be cleaned up Tuesday morning.

The executive summary is as follows:

1- Device Uploading. We now support Garmins, Timex, Polar, Swimsense, and TrainingPeaks (with more to come).  Click the "Upload" link in the black header bar in your blog and get busy.  The "Import From Garmin" link no longer exists on the workout logging page. We're being somewhat conservative with this so it may take a minute or two for your workout to show up in your log. As we get a better idea of the workload we'll be decreasing the delay. Congrats to Troy for his excellent work on this.

2 - We switched weather providers. You will notice the new graphics. We're not 100% sure we want to keep these graphics. We're going to live with them for a while before deciding. The forecast will also be updated more frequently.  I've been using this forecast in my log for a while now and it's very accurate for the next 48 hours, then it gets less accurate as the period gets longer. It's typically inaccurate in a slightly different way than our previous provider, but they're both pretty much equally inaccurate for forecasts more than 48 hours out.

3- We've retired the BT Swim Game. (Actually it's still there, we just retired the link at the top of the page and we won't be supporting it any longer).  It's been replaced with that lovely "Mobile" icon.

4- Forum support is included in the Mobile site. Additional logging  features have been added also.

We hope you'll find these new features useful.  They represent a lot of planning and work.

We are now officially putting this incarnation of BeginnerTriathlete into a "code freeze". We will be adding no new features to this version and fixing only serious bugs that have no workarounds.  Our time and energy will be spent exclusively (or as exclusively as we can make it) on developing the next version of the site.   Onward!

If you have any problems or questions about the new features, post here and we'll get to you ASAP.

*The puppy is being used to run the server. The hamster was pretty much done and we figured it was time to upgrade.

Thanks for the update and all the work that went with it!  Pretty excited to see support for the Edge 500!

I tried uploading a couple of rides from my Edge 500 but neither seems to have made it into my logs - I waited about 10 mins.  First one was for Dec 9th which already had a ride there so I thought maybe that was messing it up so I deleted one from Dec 7th and tried uploading that but it hasn't shown up either.  Both said they uploaded successfully.

The weather forecast in my blog says that it is going to be -18C every day (with no graphics).  This is a bit depressing and (I hope) not correct at all.

If I am in my blog and click the new Upload link and then click Return to Training Log it goes back to where I was.  If I am in the page where I can actually enter data for a workout and then click the Upload link and then Return to Training Log it takes me to Dec 1st rather than where I was or today's date.

What kind of a puppy? I hope it's on a treadmill. Dogs really aren't supposed to run until they're older.

I use squirrels to power my Net connection here.

Thank you, darling Mike

Puppies.  Heh.  That made me smile this morning.

I hadn't used the weather forecast for awhile, but with the change decided to take another look.

It's still reporting for the zip code where I used to live.  When I click the "Change" link from the main blog page, it takes me to the Weather customization in the settings.  I put in my zip code (60487) and click "Go" and it returns an error about not finding the zip code.

Also - I thought it pulled this zip from the Account tab?  In there my zip is correct....

The weather graphics remind me of the 8 bit graphics in space invaders.

Gonna have to check out the Garmin upload. The lack of "Upload from Garmin" threw me this morning.

LOL on the weather graphics!

BTW, not sure who the provider is but their forecast for my area is way different from TWC, Accuweather and local news.  Dislike already!

Ok, I have an actual forecast now but as above, it is quite different than what environment canada is saying.  It's still screwy with the temps too.  Friday is a high of 6C but a low of 32C?

Is anyone else noticing that you have to save a workout after you upload it (and it shows up in your log) in order for it to count on your totals?  I uploaded 2 workouts using the new method (Garmin).  They eventually showed up in my log on the proper days but the totals didn't update until I went into each day (12/17 and 12/20) and saved that workout.  It may be part of the intentional delay.  Just curious.

Tom, which totals are you referring to? The Monthly totals in the left column?

Just uploaded a garmin run from this morning. It all went in but the time was 6 hours off. Location is correct in my profile and times have always been right prior to this. Dunno if that was a one off or something that's gonna be for a while but this workout showed it as 9:00 am rather than 3:00 am.

How long should it take for the upload to show in the blog?  I uploaded 6 workouts for the past week several hours ago, and I haven't seen them yet.  Too many?    Should I do one at a time?

Thanks for the new upload features, I really dig having the additional devices and import options!
