Subject: Eating, immediately post-raceI’m amazed, and impressed, with the amount of food some people can put away immediately after a race. I finished a HIM yesterday and saw my fellow athletes downing huge meatball heroes and pizza and other grub. The last thing I wanted to do was eat. Aside from being spent from the race, I’d been diligently sucking down calories for the last six hours. I don’t think I had room for that much food.
We went out to eat a few hours later and I was famished, but immediately post-race, it was all I could do to drink a bottle of chocolate milk and some water.
There’s a local sprint that has a huge pancake breakfast at the finish—pancakes, sausages, bacon, etc. I usually have to avoid the buffet on my way back to pack up—looking at all that food makes me nauseous.
Are you hungry right after you finish?
