Recommend me something to read please (Page 3)

YES YES YES! I made good use of the chart in the front of the book to keep everyone straight. Thoroughly enjoyed it, though.

Also loved The Art of Racing in the Rain... but you will cry... especially since you have a dog. And it's not just a little cry, it will be a horrifying, snot filled, blubbering sob. So if you are OK with that... it's a great book.

Devil in the White City was good... and especially interesting to me because I'm from Chicago.

I read the Poisonwood Bible and enjoyed that as well... especially how each chapter was from a different character's POV.

If you are looking to just breeze through a book and laugh a lot... CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC is freaking hilarious. Probably because I could identify with much of what she was saying/doing. The second book in the series is good too... I think it's SHOPAHOLIC TAKES MANHATTAN... after that... they just get boring.

you would probably enjoy the james patterson women's murder club books.  easy reads, likeable characters, nothing brilliant but certainly on par with alex cross.  they have cheesy titles with numbers in them, but i can't remember any of them right now.  you don't need to start with the first one if you can't find it.

Yeah, in that vein,  i am currently reading the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum novels that start with 'one for the money' - really easy reading, funny, with some adventure/mystery. Will never win any awards but I find them to be like book crack - there are 19 of them and i am at 6.  I am not sure it will hold my attention for all 19 but is definitely good for when you don't feel like reading anything to heavy. 

I re-read the Potter books about once every other year or so... they were one series that I was absolutely gutted to get rid of when I moved to London (books are really heavy and expensive to ship) and I'll be re-buying the series once I'm doing that working thing.

One other series that I became engrossed in is one that's historical fiction with a little time travel and romance all thrown in - the Diana Gabaldon series that starts with Outlander.  It's really well written, though it can be a tad too descriptive at times.  I couldn't put it down until about the 4th book in the series when I finally needed a break to something else. 

I finally read Outlander this year and it was very enjoyable.  Are the other ones good too? 

I m currently reading " Road to Valour " by Aili and Andres McConnon. it's about an Italian cyclist before and during the second world war. a true story that gives you some insight in cycling pre war and some history in Italy's roll during the war.

I just finished Wild and really enjoyed it.  I also really liked Left Neglected and Still Alice by Lisa Genova.  I have her new one Love Anthony but have not read it yet.

Wow, I'm glad I found this thread.  So many books to try out.

I'm going to throw out books in various categories.  First, since you liked Hunger Games, I'm mention the teenager books that have gone mainstream.  Have you tried Twilight series?  Many of the movies are hideous and actually I didn't really like the first book but it was actually a good, cohesive series.  Of course, Harry Potter was recommended and the books are outstanding.

Jeffrey Archer and John Gresham have already been mentioned and they are among my favt light reads (although Archer is really something in real life).  Love, love, love Calico Joe but I'm a huge baseball fan.

Just finished Eat, Pray, Love and didn't want the book to end.  Very good.  Haven't seen the movie but I know the movie can't capture the writing style and insights.

Mysteries: Sandra Brown is predictable (romance) but interesting with the background mystery.  Most are not works of art but good reads.  Rainwater is especially good.  Jeffery Deaver with the Lincoln Rhymes series - many are chilling.  Koontz scared the photeey out of me.  

Along with Evanovich, Mary Kay Andrews is a nice cruise read. Also love Maeve Benchy and Eileen Goudge.  I love how minor characters in one book are major in others.  Plus with Maeve, I love being in Ireland.  Sara Breun with Water for Elephants and I liked Ape House although it wasn't as compelling as Elephants.  I like Anne Rivers Siddon as well. 

Currently reading the Kitchen House which has come highly recommended.  Along the lines of The Help.

Yep, I've got The Art of Racing in the Rain but not ready to go that sobby right now.  And of course, Kite Runner was excellent (and disturbing) and I'm scared to start A Thousand Splendid Suns.  And Nicholas Sparks ... well don't read him on the cruise.

Anybody else like Nelson Demille?  I like most of his (Hated Spencerville tho).  I actually like some of his with the smartazz protagonist but I can't remember his name.

It is a fictional account of a swimmers quest to make the 2012 Olympic Swim team in the 400 free. It was a really enjoyable, and quick, read. It is a little bit like, "Once a Runner" for swimming. It definitely motivated me to swim more/harder and will go on my shelf of books that I will read again. It was good enough that I would like to help the author out by promoting his book a little. And now I have done that

I really enjoyed the book Crying with Cockroaches.

You guys have convinced me to grab "The Passage" audiobook.  I'm getting tired of listening to the same music over and over again on the treadmill and need something new. 

This series looks like something I'd enjoy.

After you've read several chapters of GOT, go to Google Images, type Game of Thrones Funny and laugh until your beverage spits out your nose... The best is George RR Martin saying "oh you have a favorite character?...Not anymore..."

Martin really did an amazing job creating the world and characters. Very well written books.
