Gym was absolutely mobbed at 5:30 last night when I picked up my daughter from swim practice.  As in "can't find a parking space have to stalk someone walking to their car to get one" mobbed.  That said, it's a big gym with plenty of equipment, so the more the merrier.  I haven't experienced a class yet...I imagine they're crazy, too.

The manager of Equinox in Chicago said that numbers are down compared to prior years. Going to investigate more to find out why.

I'm afraid I'm going to look like a resolutionist next week when I go back to the gym.  The last time I was there was in November and before that March 2012.

I tried to go this morning, made it to the gym and started to get out of the car when I realized I left my gym back at home.  By the time I went back home, I didn't have time to go back and get a decent workout in before I had to get ready to go to work.  At least it was a good dry run.

Time of day may also be a factor; I wonder if more resolutionists are in the after-work shift, vs. 05:30 AM shift.

But I did notice an uptick this week (05:30 AM crowd) with some new faces, but traffic has also been light going to work, so next week will probably be worse.

I was once a resolutionist, if it's defined as someone joining a gym in January, as in "I need to lose weight this year".  That was three years ago now, and I haven't stopped since then, lost almost 50 lbs since then, and kept it off.

Sadly, maybe people have given up? That the sedentary lifestyle is so accepted nowadays?

On New Years Day, our evening CrossFit class had 25 people. The most I've ever seen! Some new, mostly regulars. Yesterday at 9am, there were only 5 people total. All regulars. (granted, most people work, but usually there is 8-10)

Packed to the gills last night at 7pm. First time I have had to wait for a treadmill. A lot of walkers! The girl on the treadmill next to me was complaining to her friend about all the new people. Other than the wait I am glad to see more people trying to get healthy.

I was doing an 8 mile run and 30 mins on the bike. I did have someone sit down on the bike next to me and then get up and move over one. Hey, I sweat a lot, deal with it!

Best part of the night was that the guy who had the locker next to me was wearing an Ironman shirt, and it turns out we will both be doing Lake Placid this summer. And we both just finished PT for injuries last season

Brian, I heard violins playing as I read this Tongue out

I pretty much stick to riding and running outside these days or hitting the gym in my apartment complex that is always empty so I won't have to contend with too much crowding, but I agree, it's good that people are getting into it.  How many BT'ers started with a new year's resolution to run a triathlon?

I'm glad to see the positive comments on here about the resolutionists.  BT members have always been very inviting of people new to the sport or to fitness.  Pat yourselves on the back...

Aw come on, it's always nice to compare war stories. Plus someone new I can train with.I just don't want to see some dude's hernia scar!

The gym is necessary because of the pool and for the times where I am too wimpy to run outdoors. If I gave a rat's a** what people thought would I really have picked a sport where 50 year old men wear spandex?

I agree though, even though it is sometimes inconvenient, we should encourage everyone to exercise and be healthy. It's a lifestyle, not a resolution.

It's been pretty quiet at work this week too.  I think when Christmas/NY are on Tuesdays people take the most time off...

So I predict crowds starting Monday....

I don't normally go to the pool Monday morning, but it was a little busier than the last couple mornings I have been in the pool. Though everyone in the pool was a pretty decent swimmer, so I don't think they are just resolutioners.

Gym parking lot was packed this morning...as I drove by because I had to be at the wing FOD walk at 7am and since I had to swim for an hour and the pool doesn't open until 6am then there was no way to swim before the FOD walk...so I will have to go later.  Boo.

BUT, I did notice WAY more cars...people are definitely back from vacay.

Officers do FOD walks?

The gym on Saturday was packed and there were probably four or five people waiting to speak with one of the three membership coordinators. I think it's started.

It was a ghost town at the pool this AM about 5:30 (normal time for me). In fact, I don't recall it being more empty -- 3 open lanes! That never happens, even during the summer and big vacation weeks. I noticed none of the manatee crowd was there, so its likely they'll be back soon.  When I was leaving the gym/weights area seemed to be short a few folks as well.

This is worth sharing. Woman on the treadmill, 2 down from me. Treadmill is cranked all the way near max speed. She is straddling the treadmill, feet on either side of the moving tread. While hanging onto the railing, move feet onto moving tread and frantically try to run at Usain Bolt pace for 15 seconds. Supporting weight with arms, lift feet off tread and move to sides. Wait one minute and repeat.

She looked like a puppet with flailing legs and feet. If it wasn't so dangerous this would have been the most entertaining thing I've seen at the gym in months. And it's still the first week of January.

My gym has been really crowded this past week. Usually from 4pm-7pm its a madhouse and you cannot find parking or a cardio machine. I was doing some core and ST and wanted to end with a 2 mile run but there was literally a line for all the cardio machines. After about 15mins of waiting I said Ef it and decided to rock the stair climber for 20mins. I dont mind it being busy, I will just change my gym hours to accomodate until the end of march when things go back to normal.

Our unit doctor splatted herself into the wall doing this.  It was a while before any of the Marines nearby hit the stop button on the machine so she could get up.  Kinda funny, kinda tragic...

Plenty of people in the gym here Sunday mid-day, which is usually a very quiet time. Quite a few appeared to be new members. Maybe the economy is doing better here than in the US?  But no one in the pool--when I asked for the key, they said it was really cold and was I sure I wanted to swim?  Air temps in mid-70's, water about 80. Guess that is "cold" by Vietnamese standards. Had a nice swim with pool all to myself.
