Champion 10550 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Kona or the Masters No contest for me either even though I used to golf and belong to a golf league - Kona all the way! Though I'm not sure at this point if I'd rather do the race, or be a volunteer for it (which is still on my list of things I want to do). |

TV really doesn't pick up how hilly this course is or how stunning it is! Bonus points for the peach ice cream sandwich with sugar cookies, FREE parking, and low cost on the food! Lunch for my brother and I was $10.50! The most expensive thing on the menu was beer for $3.50! |

New user 9 | Subject: RE: Kona or the Masters I would have to go with the Masters, in a close race. Tradition: At first thought, I was going to say the Masters has far more tradition and "moments," that I would recognize; however, coming up to the finish line at Kona I would probably remember quite a few "finishes" that were very mememorable. Either one, I'm getting tingles. Personal Satisfaction: At the end of the day at Augusta, I would probably think I was the most worthless golfer, especially under championship conditions. At the end of the day in Kona, I would feel incredibly accomplished no matter what place I finished. Pain: Kona would hurt, a lot. After a round of golf, I could probably still have a beer in the clubhouse, or even a "Mr. Palmer." Non-participant additionals: I think I would rather get to see the Masters unfold, than observe Kona/Hawaii. Sure it would be relaxing, besides the nerves and pain of the race. Experience: Augusta, at least for me, would be a better story to share going forward. I don't bring up Ironman very often. The Masters is probably a more relatable experience. A tough would you rather. Edited by Hasher 2013-04-12 12:55 PM |

Masters it is sir. I should have known better to ask whether Hawaii would have more bacon than somewhere in the south. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Kona or the Masters ejshowers - 2013-04-11 4:27 PM Masters for me, not even close. Same. Kona is nice and all. Would love to go, but it's just another IM, but this one is in HI. It would be cool to say you raced in Kona (for those who even know/care)... But still 12-13 hours of pain. 4 days of watching the best golfers in the world THEN playing a course barely anyone get's to play? Count me in. For those who never saw a pro golf tournament? The pros are shockingly good. Even the "bad" ones. I can camp out at a tee box all day and never stop being amazed at how far and accurate they can hit it. It's almost beyond comprehension when I think of my own swing and those of the people I play with. |

You can only choose one and will never be able to attend/participate in the other one during your lifetime. What would you choose? I'd have to choose the Masters, especially with the free round on Monday...that would truly be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Are women still not allowed to golf at Augusta? (this doesn't change MY answer, as i would prefer a trip to hawaii over a trip to georgia any day, but this question certainly has a lot more weight to it if that is still the case. to be the ONLY WOMAN (or just first woman) to have golfed there...could be pretty cool....even if you suck) Edited by mehaner 2013-04-12 3:24 PM |

In recent history they could play as guests, but there are only 2 women members who were just admitted last August: "After decades of controversy, the all-male Augusta National Golf Club has admitted its first female members, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and business executive Darla Moore." |

Given that the event is put on by the club, which is owned by the members, who are all very, very, very well-off, I appreciated that they didn't charge and arm and a leg for the concessions. We had pretty complete access (minus the round on Monday), and got to have lunch on the lawn by the club in the area for the members, players, past-champions, etc. Funny that you asked this question, because the whole time I was there, sitting in the midst of golf royalty, I was looking around, pretty impressed (but not overwhelmed) thinking to myself, "This must be what Dig Me Beach much be like, only less cool." So I vote Kona. Edited by Ershk 2013-04-12 3:39 PM |

We thanked her for her service (as National Security Advisor, Secretary of State, etc.) and she even laughed at my bad joke that she "looked just like the person they got to play Alec Baldwin's girlfriend on 30 Rock."
