This is the meat and potato's of a country. Everything else falls into place after you can pay for it.... Moral high ground is useless if you have no money and are bankrupt...in fact..thats when you don't necessarily have the luxury of morals and they become fleeting.... If you hate the guy because he's a pervert fine. If you vote against or for him because of it...I think you've missed the point of an elected official. What is his economic platform and what is he going to do for you and your country.....

Missed the point of elected officials???? What, you mean like, honesty, integrity, accountability. Ya, how silly all that stuff is. His  economic platform is what is really important. Frown

How in the heck does a platform matter when you can't trust a word out of his mouth?

If you think you can trust any politician on moral grounds, I'm afraid your in for a life of disappointment. I don't want to sound like honesty and integrity are not important traits....they are. The reality, whether distasteful or not, is that elected officials are there to run government and inact legislation for the better of it's people. There morality is moot. Holding up politicians on a pedestal is just a recipe for disappointment over and over again. I would trade fiscal responsibility and getting the books in order any day of the week for a moron who wears a tie, and doesn't text and drive, politically correct, eats his vitamins and says his prayers... All you can do is hold them accountable for what they promise to do with your vote. If they don't follow through, you don't vote for them. If we continue to vote for our elected officials in the "court of public opinion..." well.....Detroit is just the tip of the ice berg... Its time to start looking at the cold hard truth. Money talks, and b.s. walks. If by chance you get a politician who is economically responsible and (lol) also has integrity...great...but the latter should not be essential to the first.
I ran for office, twice. Once for State Representative and once for State Senate. During that time I have met and became friends with many politicians on both sides of the aisle. I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of politicians are the most honest, compassionate, giving and hard working people I have ever met. The morally bankrupt ones are few and far between and don't stick around long because it is really tough to develop a base when you are an a$$. So my experience in politics doesn't conform to your statement.

Yeah, they take all the morally bankrupt state legislators and send them all to Washington.

You speak the truth.

If he does he can have a big ball and everybody can come!

Seriously, though, the girl's name is Sydney Leathers? So it's Carlos Danger and Sydney Leathers? This is just too much.

If Sydney Leathers had a chance to take the Weiner poll; would she say he was up to the task?

Just out of curiosity - for those defending Weiner/saying its still ok to elect him --- if a teacher (at any grade level) did the exact same thing he did - would it be ok for him to teach your child in class? (Assume for the hypothetical said person is a qualified teacher, etc so on and so forth)

If he (or she) isn't good enough to teach your children, why is said person good enough to run your city/state/country?

My answer is 'no'.

Certain people, imho, are simply held to a higher standard.

The latest scandal has Weiner's numbers dropping. He's fallen back into 4th place, his campaign manager quit and more people have a negative opinion of him than positive.

Name recognition, it seems, can only take one so far.

Needless to say, the NY media is having a field day with Weiner's numbers "going limp". I even heard a local reporter yesterday say something about Weiner "pulling out early". I'm not 100% sure she realized the double-entendre she'd just made, but I'll give her credit and assume it was intentional.

Politicus interruptus?

I hope he stays in for a little while longer, he's providing so much entertainment. Just when you think you've seen it all, he get chastised by Eliot Spitzer. Sad to think we'll never see a Weiner-Spitzer ticket. Or would that be Spitzer-Weiner?

higher than the normal standard. If I recall, you are a police officer, and assuming it's the same everywhere, depending on one's status (for lack of a better phrase), a criminal punishment (or lack thereof) differs. (In Illinois, it's codified) I'm not trolling - I am honestly curious, but it seems no one is interested in the comparison, so that's fine. (Really, it is - I know tone is missing in forum posts)

You kind of lost me a bit.  When it comes to texting I'm not really sure what's normal and what isn't.  What he did is not criminal where I am.

to be honest, i really don't care a whole heck of a lot what a teacher, athlete, politician, CEO, 4star general, or police chief, or santa clause does when it comes to their personal lives. if they want to talk dirty, text pictures to another consenting adult, cheat on their spouse, dress up in drag, hang from the ceiling with S&M stuff, or dress up like star wars characters, who am i to care? they have a job to do, and as long as they can do that job without their personal life interfering with their job ethics/standards/quality/etc., then do what you want to do....it's a free country...just obey the laws. if it does affect their job, they get the boot.

the problem now days is that everyone is looking for role models and they care way too much about other peoples business.

fyi...i know a few teachers that you wouldn't want in the same building as your kid, based on their personal lives. but you know what...they are great teachers.

Did anyone see his 23 year old high school dropout tester gf Leather's  10 secrets of how to seduce a politician?

I think she even put out a porn video too... She's cashing out..

Not a chance. There aren't enough stupid people to elect him. Not even in New York. He did well early because of name recognition alone. People named him in polls because he was the only candidate they'd heard of. Now that his name recognition is mostly testing negative, he doesn't have a shot. He's staying in for the same reason that he keeps texting pictures of his junk to women who aren't his wife--he's an egomaniacal sociopath.

Longshots sell papers. The press wants you to think he's a viable candidate because he's good for ratings. No legitimate pollster gives him a snowball's chance in h@!!.

He finished a distant 5th in the voting. I think he got 5%? He also apparently gave the finger to a group of reporters as he was leaving his campaign HQ last night.

Eliot Spitzer, the other former NY pol with a sex scandal, was also defeated, although by a smaller margin than Weiner.
