Although the reason to shave for me is more about the ability to clean when you crash… if you've ever hit the pavement, you really appreciate the ability to get the road rash cleaned out without having the hair getting in there…. Aerodynamics is just an added bonus. Then of course, it's the tradition of a cyclist...

They mention it in the end, but in last months issues of Triathlete Mag., Jesse wrote and article about his experience in the "win" tunnel and how the biggest advantage was shaving his legs. Then went into a little detail of the Chewbacca scale. I have to admit, I look at my razor a little differently now...

Compression sleeves will arguably do the same thing.  You'll just look like a doofus and not a woman.

I saw a skin colored tri suit that had a thong on it.  It was awesome until I realized it was a dude.  Couldn't tell with the shaved legs and all.

Those are actually wrestling singlets. I'm a wrestling coach and was on line looking at singlets and ran across those. I always wondered who would wear them. Now I know.

I'd love to know how much shaved legs would help an average age grouper.

Well... if you believe what Specialized put out, the answer is somewhere around 40" - 1:20 per 40k.

Assuming the athletes they tested were above average, then an average age grouper would save something more than the 70" they saw.

So it's cheaper and you save more time by shaving your legs than buying a SHIV or ZIPP wheels or an aero helmet. I wonder if they secretly own stock of a major razor company......

Nice marketing strategy.

very interesting.  I did two 40k TT's 10 days apart about a month ago.  elevation and temps were similar.  bike was identical.

Course 1:  400 ft of elevation and a half mile longer than 40k

Course 2: 150 ft of elevation and dead on 40k

I was 30 seconds slower on Curse 2 with 15 watts more on average.  The difference was that I didn't shave because I was recovering from some road rash I got just after my first 40k which covered from hip to ankle on my right leg.  I thought maybe the air was just really thick....

Went out and did my 2x20' interval workout last night and the only thing I could focus on was the feel of the wind blowing on my leg hair.

I did my last HIM with unshaved legs. This was the first time ever for any event in cycling since I was 18 or so. It will be the last time. If this is correct over the 57.5 mile leg, I lost about 2.5 minutes... damn!!

I don't believe ITU allows them on the swim.

Canadian Long Distance Championships they told everyone they couldn't wear them. They told us it was per ITU rules.
Skin/Speedsuits were also not allowed.
