Pre-race routine:

I didn't sleep due to nervousness!
Started the morning with a Shakeology shake, some yogurt and some water.
Event warmup:

Minimal -- spent more time observing to see what was going on.
Swim
  • 08m 34s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt pretty good overall, worked to get to the front area of the pack so I had more room to manoever but has a few issues determining course. The course has us keeping buoy to the right and because I'm left handed, I breathe more comfortably on the left which made it hard to see the course
What would you do differently?:

I need to be able to follow the course a little more directly. Had some issues seeing where I was going because my goggles were leaking slightly.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Got held up by officials leaving the transition area because of olympic distance athletes entering which added 10-15 seconds to my time.

What would you do differently?:

Briefly lost grip on my bike so I need to fix that, and may skip the gloves. Putting them on added a few seconds but they stop my hands from hurting so I will need to decide if it's worth it.
Bike
  • 25m 30s
  • 10 kms
  • 23.53 km/hr
Comments:

Not my fastest ride for sure. Can definitely work to increase speed
What would you do differently?:

I got a little lazy coming up the hills and could have spent some time pushing a little harder up them. Need to get a better water bottle for my bike
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! This one felt good!!
Run
  • 16m 49s
  • 3 kms
  • 05m 37s  min/km
Comments:

I felt tired to start. and really felt slow overall but I picked up by the end.
What would you do differently?:

Keep myself focused and not let my mental game slow me down!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nerves!!!

Event comments:

I really enjoyed myself! It was a tough course for a first triathlon due to the hills but everyone was so helpful and I had a really great time.

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

A product review of the Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Shoe. After nearly two years of testing, see how this shoe performed. Currently being replaced by the Tri Air 2.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

It’s a challenge to push yourself a little harder and a little further. Be proud of every workout that is accomplished and every step-even the baby ones-that you take on this course to the finishline.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
