My podiatrist just put me on the sideline till my injury improves.   Better move me from the full to the half.

I will be spectating -- the race is too close to Powerman Alabama. I don't think I will have enough time to recover. I heard the course is tough and HILLY -- I will be cheering on.....

Anyone for Chattahochee Road Race?

After much thought and inner conflict I have decided to drop down to the Half. My original (and unspoken) goal was to try and BQ at this race. Due to family issues I don't have nearly the base that I had planned on having at this time in order to start my higher intensity training. The smarter call is to do the Half and save my legs for St A's and Gulf Coast.

I'm registered and training for the full. I'm hoping to break 4 hours again for the first time in 6 years. I run my long runs on Saturday afternoons or could do Sunday mornings if anyone wants to start doing some running with me. I don't mind doing long runs alone, but they are much more fun if you have some people to chat with.

Doing the Full, my first Marathon.

Getting some heat from a few members saying that it will screw up my 1/2 IM in May. I run 30 miles a week with a 13 mile every Saturday. I have a hard time thinking that this will screw up my race in May.

I think I'm going to bow out of this one. I could probably be ready but the cost is a big consideration. This race costs as much as tri's and I'd rather spend the money on those.

I'm doing the full - figure since its the first running, it will be a perfect first marathon for me.

So, I ran the first 12-13 miles of the course today as part of a 19+mi training run. .

My $02USD is the course is tough almost right out of the box, much tougher than the elevation map implies. I run the area regularly and was surprised how hard I was working after the first leg to Ralph McGill. Hills just keep coming at you the next 6-7 miles. Things seemed to calm down in Decatur and I plan to run the rest of the course next week for an idea of what that's like.

PR could be safe for another year. LOL.

I've changed my mind about this race and won't be running the 1/2.  I have a LONG marathon training run that weekend adn it'll be more chaotic for me to switch things up, so I'm just going to stick my training plan

Ok, well I initially said I was running the Full marathon, but it looks like I may have be satisfied with the half-marathon. After a 15 miler last weekend, I suddenly developed some incredibly annoying and fairly painful shin splints.

So for the next two weeks, I'll probably focus on biking and swimming and see if I can't get healthy enough to at least do the half. Any other suggestions besides rest and ice?

Don't worry about it at all... it will NOT screw up your half in May.. especially if you are not planning on killing this run for a PR or anything. If anything, it will help you in May. Don't let haters ruin your plans.
btw: I'm doing the same thing.. and then some.

I just got an email that the ING half and full marathon are sold out.  I procrastinated registering because of injury so it looks like my decision has been made for me.
