Total Time = 3h 04m 35s
Overall Rank = 2339/
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 73/124
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:10AM - used bathroom, got dressed, braided hair, and ate breakfast (1/2 bagel with PB & Banana - Green Tea). Walked down to transition area from hotel.
Event warmup:

Nothing
Swim
  • 31m 18s
  • 1635 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good pace, this is about what I predicted (taking into account being a little slower than the pool, since there is no wall to kick off of)I think I definately started too far back and I spent a LOT of time trying to get around slower swimmers, so I'm sure that is part of the slower time. 20 seconds faster/100 than last year!
What would you do differently?:

Start farther up in the wave.
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Good transition overall - to make this any faster, I need to get better at running from the swim finish to my bike (I walked most of the way). I actually finished faster than I expected and stopped to think for a second if I was missing anything.
What would you do differently?:

Jog to my bike from the swim exit
Bike
  • 1h 21m 6s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.38 mile/hr
Comments:

This was an awesome bike for me!! I always lose places on the bike, but I gained about 10 places this time! I passed a ton of people, which was certainly a new experience for me! I am very pleased with my performance here (I had planned on a 1:30).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

I was about to have a panic attack racking my bike - the stupid person next to me racked on the wrong side and left my NO room to rack my bike. Kirk was watching me and said it didn't take as long to figure this out, but it seemed like I was messing with the stupid bikes FOREVER. How hard is it to rerack your bike on the correct side?!?!
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what I could have done differently here
Run
  • 1h 07m 27s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I know I'm not the fastest runner, but I shouldn't be losing 22 places on the run! It started out okay, just under a 10 minute mile (where I wanted it). I was chafing on my left arm, so that bothered me a little, but my pace was just continually falling. I walked a good bit starting after mile 3, but much less than I walked last year. The last 3 miles, I was running until I started to feel queesy and would walk for 30 seconds. I swear it's the "curse of the run" for me - I had such great bricks during training, but it didn't translate to a good run for me here. There is definately improvement, but I still need to improve a LOT here!
What would you do differently?:

Run more? Bodyglide arms in transition?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a little, drank water, wiped down with cool/wet towel. Drank a recoverite and then a beer! :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall learnings: Start farther up in the swim wave, bodyglide before run, run more

Event comments:

I love this race, it's such a fun atmosphere and I get back to work feeling like I had a mini-vacation. It was great having over 20 members of the club at the race, I'm hoping we'll have a big group next year as well. This is a race that is definately staying on my schedule!

Great RR, Heather.  Sorry to hear the run didn't go as well as you'd have liked, but overall sounds like you had a super race!!  (And at this point, I'm planning on doing St. A's next year and look forward to being there!)

Yeah, Heather!  You did great ... quit beating yourself up over some great splits - especially the bike.

It was great to see you on the course. If you were having any dark thoughts on the run, then it didn't show through b/c you looked great - and, dare I say, you had what seemed to be smile down the home stretch!

Good race...

Awesome race, Heather!  I knew you were having a great race when you zipped past me on the bike!!!  You were all smiles (and also motivation for me to push my slow butt on the bike).   I'm sure you're pumped for the upcoming tri's and you should be expecting a great season!

Nice race...impressive improvements all the way around...

20 seconds/100 yds is amazing! Share your secrets with me

Bike you blew your time estimate away.

PB on the run...it was hot there wasn't it for us women...it takes a toll on us. I had the same thing bricks felt good but the run was tough. You improved from last year on it even with the heat.

Body glide your whole arm area that rubs before the swim..works for me.

Congrats on an awesome race...well done!
