Age Group Rank = 20/34
Pre-race routine:

very cool saturday evening dinner with BT gang! Thanks to KathyG for setting things up.

light breakfast, Got to race site early enough for no stress. Had to get a new strap for chip so that was a bit of a hassle. set up simple T zone. Had to move along since my group was in the 2nd swim wave.
Event warmup:

no warmup.
Swim
  • 29m 47s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

decided to wear wetsuit, chose one piece tri-suit under (good choice) a little hot about midway thru swim felt slightly yucky.water was quite warm and sometimes this causes me discomfort however the extra 'safety' of the suit won out.

No time to really stress out and overthink the issue of the swim, 2nd wave, just need to dive in! started in mid pack. got into a comfortable groove and rythm. felt good for the whole swim. kept positive vibes flowing. got whacked a couple times, one was strong enough to stop and take a break to adjust goggles and get myself together.
What would you do differently?:

overall, I am pleased with the swim. I havent swam much at all this year yet better swim than years past. I'll take it. maybe no wetsuit if I was a stronger swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

jogged up and thru chutes. smooth t-1. no lolligagging this time!! good flow if things. wetsuit came off pretty good. wore sox with bike shoes. no fancy or fast transition tricks this time.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 4s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 19.64 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good on the bike. good cadence control. aero as much as possible. computer was DOA so I had no idea about distance and ave. speed. kind rode as I felt.left knee bothered me somewhat about halfway. resolved after a few miles. Being in Wave 2 of the swim put me in the thick of the pack of bikes. nice to have company and to pace with. Thought I was going a little faster as average speed, oh well.

good mid-pack ride. got off the bike at 1:50ish and was happy with that since it would give me over an hour to hit 3 hrs or to sneak in at 2:45.
What would you do differently?:

computer working.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

smooth transition. helmet off, shoes off, runners on(remembered speed laces), number on, food on and out the chute.
Run
  • 55m 45s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

good mid-pack pace. Goal was to try and hit 2:45 ish.pace needed to work on that.running legs came on quickly. no knee issues, Heat was enough to make me walk thru water stations. kept cool at each with water over the head and neck. walked about a 100 yds or so after mile 5. trying to cool down and lower heart race and psych up for final mile. knew it would be close to grab 2:45. didnt stress about it. hit the 6 mile mark at 2:45, that damn .2 again!!!
What would you do differently?:

legs felt good. issues all week after the hard monday run. never could flush them out. rested for the week. friday's run was crappy and I was afraid that would roll into saturday bit it didnt. I wish I could say I should have run faster or not stopped at the water station to run faster but I cant. I did was I could do.
Post race
Warm down:

lots to drink, cold cloths to head. shade. be psyched for BT peeps finishing.

PR'd the course by 8 mins!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wish I could say I should have run faster or not stopped at the water station to run faster but I cant. I did was I could do. My outlook for the races is 'on any given day' the best effort I can do. This cranberry was just that. Training was better than last year. transition was better, experience was better. over all, a better cranberry time!!

Event comments:

well put together race. run miles were marked (pet peeve of mine), great tunes, yummy food, and...best of all....hanging with BT buds was very cool!!

Hahaha... you were one of the latest to set up TA, and you called it "early enough for no stress"!  I really like your laid back attitude.  As always, nice paces, especially on the run.

Great job at the transitions.

Thanks for meeting us slower ones at the finish exit.  It's nice to see you, as always.

Glen,
Great seeing you and great race.  Love your no stress arrival time.  I saw you arriving when I was headed down for a swim, and your wave was b4 mine.

Adios

Way to PR, Glennie!!!    How do you swim so fast without practice??

Hmmmm...2nd swim wave eh?  They have to let the DOMS go first, I guess

I WILL make it there someday!!!  Really!

Awesome job Glen...now I know you were sandbagging it 2 years ago when you helped me get to the finish to beat May in the 1st annual smackdown.  You keep getting faster every year and I get slower!

Good to see you again!
