  • Comments: Had 1 volunteer let a car go through an intersection. Had to stop to let the car go through. The last mile downhill towards transition was pretty dangerous, but as long as you were in front of everyone it was fine ;-)

  • Comments: OK, I am not going to do the usual "bash Frank Dobbs" but this race is notorious for being unorganized, distances off, etc. This year, there were no body markers and the split transition area was a real logistical nightmare. There will plenty of others on here bashing the race and Frank, but there always seems to be 800+ racers. I think that's because this is a nice location and has a good end of season date.

  • Comments: did a sprint a few weeks earlier but wanted to do an olympic tri and did it. not bad considering 11 months ago i weighed 260 lbs. (lost 70) smoked about a pack a day (quit) and drank pretty heavy (slowed way down.) thinking about doing some more oly's next year and who knows maybe a half.

  • Comments: Great location. This race takes some heat for lack of organization, but I think 99% of it is good. Beautiful venue and a great course. I love it.

  • Comments: Parking was terrible - They charged $5 to park and it filled up fast. The transition spots weren't assigned which I didn't really like. Packet pickup was poorly setup - not spread out enough.

  • Comments: Overall, very pleased with my time. Definitely feel like I could have performed better in the swim and the bike under less windy conditions. Was given the wrong number, so my results are credited another "Patrick Allen" Apparently, 2 "Patrick Allens" were racing the Olympic distance and I was wearing the other guy's number. Have a call into the RD to get it straightened out, but have not heard back yet. Hopefully this will not be a huge problem to get resolved. Until its squared away, I won't know my AG standings, as the other guy was in a different AG.

  • Comments: I've been to 1 other race. It was smaller, but much better run. For the money, I would have expected a better post race event and a more timely start. Volunteers were good, the water safety patrol was excellent.

  • Comments: Given some comments from past years, I was worried about the organization of this race. But it really wasn't that bad. There seemed to be enough volenteers, although some things did seem to be set up fairly inefficently, especially registration, get there early and expect to wait. Course talk during the pasta dinner was difficult to understand. Bike course was adequately marked and there was alway someone in front of me to follow anyway. Although different color arrows marked the oly and him course and there were no instructions as to what the colors meant. This was not a problem during the race, as larger signage was up to give direction, buty did cause me some confussion when I tried driving the course the evening before. My one real complaint is that the start was 45 min later. It wasn't so much late as the start was scheduled to eaarly (before sunrise). THis meant setting up in the pitch dark, and no warmup. If they'd actually started on time, the lifegaurds would not

  • Comments: Registration opened late...no sweat for me but MarkK seemed a little stressed about it. As last year I thought the post race activites kinda sucked compared to some other races I've done. There weren't enough aid stations on the run (there were 3 but the last one was 1/2 mile prior to the finish line). The bike course was marked well enough but there were two spot on the run that really could have used some arrows. And the course distances didn't seem very accurate. Mark did another race put on by the same person, and the general consensus was that the swim course was too long. That race ALSO lacked volunteers and post race activities were mediocre. These races tend to be more expensive too. As a result MarkK and I have pretty much decided to stay away from the entire Lake Geneva Extreme Series. STILL, my placing was AWESOME for me!!! I actually got solidly to the front of the pack and I am THRILLED about that!!! :)

  • Comments: Well I tried to do a Sprint in Zion last month as my first tri but they cancelled the swim and I had a flat on the bike so I hope you will allow me to call this my first triathlon. In any case, this was my first Olympic distance triathlon. I have to say finding this sport this summer has done a world of good for me. In June of this year I hit a weight I thought I would never see and I think some confidence left as the weight came on. My friends kept asking me to come out east to do a triathlon and I kept saying no. They finally told me to find one near me and they would come to me. How could I say no? However, they didn't know the awful shape I was in. I found this website and found the 16 week Olympic training plan. I had to start it in week 4 (kids, don't try this at home) but from that week on I think I only missed 1 or 2 workouts. I stuck to the plan religiously. I got up between 4:30 and 5:15 for most workouts so I would take as little away from my family as possible. Now,

  • Comments: The swim course was definitely short... how short, I don't know. About 10-12 minutes short in my case. I was meandering all over the course and still managed to finish a good 9 minutes better than my best Oly swim time. This race is notoriously disorganized, but it didn't seem that bad to me this year. I had a great time... Looking to improve next year... Tri season 2005 is a WRAP!!! Photos to come.

  • Comments: Only my second race and first olympic...but...compared to harborlights...less volunteers, less water, seemed less organized. Post race food for like a gazillion people was limited to one picnic table in a gazebo with a long line. But regardless...phenomenal weekened!! I achieved my goal of under 3hrs...the course was actually beautiful (esp the bike), able to enjoy the tri and see and wave and scream back at the kids....and the weekend at the abbey went great. Kids had a blast in the pool!
