  • Comments: I'm glad I chose this as my first triathlon. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I cannot wait until my next race. I was a little shocked that I finished in the top 20 of my age group. What a great confidence booster!! The event was well-organized, and the volunteers were friendly and well-informed. The course was well-marked and exactly as described on the organizer's website. Best part about it was the support from my hubby and kiddos!

  • Comments: I did the Tinsel Tri as my first tri 3 years ago, so it was cool to finally come back and see my progress. Also, I've been having motivation issues the last few weeks, and a fun race was just what I needed.

  • Comments: A lot of youngsters out on this course, some doing the tri and others doing just the 5k. One girl doing the 5k was only in 1st grade. The youngest triathlete was 7. There was a father and son pair dressed up as the Incredibles, as well as the obligatory Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all their reindeer.

  • Comments: It was my first race in 13 years, and I had a blast! Everyone was so much fun, and it was a great first timer type of triathlon. I've been out of fitness for a bit, so it was meant to provide myself a baseline and gain some experience, which it definitely did! With my travel schedule, who knows if I'll be in Southern California again for this race next year, but I'd definitely like to try! I'm happy with my overall performance, I was aiming for about 1 hour to 1 hour 5 minutes given my training times and I am happy to have hit my target! I wasn't out to break records, but rather finish happy and on pace. Can't wait to do my next Tri!!

  • Comments: This race is a good community event. There are logistical issues that haven't been worked out and there appeared to be far fewer volunteers this year compared to last year. I love this race because it's fun and relaxed. Once you finish your swim you are allowed back into transition causing a log jam of people coming in off the bike to head to the pool. All finishers should be given the same opportunity to get to the pool to swim and not get blocked in. If you're looking for a lower key first tri or know someone who is this is a great race. The fees are fairly reasonable and there are tons of first timers with hybrids, mountain bikes and beach cruisers and no need to buy or rent a wetsuit.

  • Comments: I have to be honest - I didn't love it. The course was pretty boring and the T-shirt and the medal were way lame (not that I race for the goodie bag, but these were some of the worst I've seen in 20+ years of competitive sports). I'd rather have chip timing and no SWAG or a cheaper race entry instead. My first triathlon was such a great, inspiring experience that this (my second) really didn't live up to my expectations. One cool thing was that there were a lot of kids there both for the 5k and the Tri. I would think this would be a great race for a family or a child who wants to get out there and give it a shot. For me, it was fine as something to do, but I won't be back.

  • Comments: The actual race and everything was great. Only thing really to improve on for them would be to have some decent food at the end and maybe go over instructions better for new folks.

  • Comments: This is a fun, well-organized race. Many people told me that this was a great first time triathlon, and all that was true. I was hoping to finish under 1:30 and I was under that by 15 minutes. If I hadn't douched T2 I might have been much closer to 1:10

  • Comments: Had fun and that is what this race is all about. It is a 1st race for a lot of people which of course makes a few things a in transition for example a little crazy (note: I had a good spot in transition). Up near the front it wasn't as crazy. My friend Steve wanted to do this race because it was the first one he did 2 years ago. It was interesting to do a REVERSE-TRI. Some things you get used to doing in transition do not work in a reverse and you need to remember to do other things. (i.e. my socks). I almost placed in my age group (4th out of 60) and finished in the top 3% of the race. Also the girl from the Soboba Casino gave me a whole box of water bottles. I have all the bottles I'll need for a long time!

  • Comments: A fairly bare-bones operation. Not a ton of volunteers, one aid station (at the transition), and no schwag, but for $50, a great deal. Nice long sleeve tee, a fantastic course (scenic too), and a good vibe to the race. Having a tri in December was a nice novelty. The folks running the race had a great attitude as well. I'll be back for '06.

  • Comments: Very well organized for a local low budget sprint race. EXTREMELY fast course with no problems hiccups. Not much of a physical test, but fun to go FAST. Running twice a week up from once a week has really benefitted my times. I still need to train more.

  • Comments: This was just a fun little Tri. Nothing to get serious about due to the fact they had no mileage markers or chips. You were just having to watch your watch and you didnt know where the run should have stopped. Think the bike course was a little short. Swim was only a 100 meter swim. I also forgot to mention that this was a backwards tri. I guess that is what you would call it. The run was first, then bike and swim was last. There were no wave starts. Everyone started the run together. This is not what you would call a serious Tri but I still would do it again. Just a great vibe about the place. You were running with parents and their kids. It was fun to see how much the kids enjoyed it. Plus it was a kick to see them out there on their bikes. A great way to end my year.
