Swim
Comments: Oh. Dear. God. My swim needs a lot of work. I can swim forever if I get in a rhythm - slow, but forever. But I couldn't get in a rhythm today and had to stop every 100 m to reconsider my thinking. Not a good swim leg. What would you do differently?: I need to get the OWS thing out of my head - and this was in a pool. I just couldn't find my space to hit my stroke, etc. Of course, in a true OWS, I may be able to hang back from the pack and find some space there, but here, another wave was off every 30 seconds. Transition 1
Comments: The swim really threw me, so I had a heck of a time getting my mind right for the bike. Took me probably 0.25 mile to get both feet clipped in - despite yelling at my shoes that entire time. What would you do differently?: Not swim so poorly? :) Bike
Comments: Happy with the bike portion. My first race (and only 3rd ride) on Freyja the tri bike. Even though I didn't stay in aero (rough road the back half, plus my shoulders hurt from swimming, tension, and not being used to the bike) for the whole race, I felt really good for the whole ride (except that whole clip in thing at the beginning). What would you do differently?: Keep up riding hills, even though I hate them. Hate them. Makes races like this seem downright easy. Plus I get to say "passing on your left" lots more. ;) Transition 2
Comments: Hmmm. I didn't feel this slow, but I guess it's possible. Helmet, bike shoes off; baseball hat, running shoes, belt on - shouldn't take so long! What would you do differently?: FASTER Pussycat! Run
Comments: Yeah me! Breaking 10min miles on a tri5K! It's been way too long since I've seen 9! The run was awesome. I felt soooo good coming off the bike - short strides for the first mile or so, and then just ran. (Yeah, you can tell I'm a runner...I was passing people, I was chatting, I was joking with the volunteers...while other people looked like they were on a death march.) It was awesome. Picked up the pace for the 2nd loop and then sprinted it in. (And then felt like I was going to hurl on the man who was cutting off the chip...that passed without event, thankfully.) What would you do differently?: Keep running. My old running self is making a come back. Post race
Warm down: After I decided I WASN'T going to hurl on anyone...met up with Hubby (doing his first tri - YEAH!) and Jen (Artemis). Ate some good food (french toast w/ apples, eggs & cheese, hashbrown & sausage casserole), drank some water/G2/diet Coke, and chatted. Then I went and showed Jen my pretty new bike. :) (Or should I say my pretty, fast! new bike...) What limited your ability to perform faster: SWIM. SWIM. SWIM. I got to get my shizzle together on the swim. I can do 2000 at Masters without dying (and more on my own)...but this 400m faux-OWS killed me. Event comments: Great race! RTC (and Jay Peluso) know how to put on a good event, plus SetUp is usually solid. Everything about this race was done right. Last updated: 2013-01-29 12:00 AM

Woke up, ate a larabar, had a diet Dew, drove with hubby down to the race.
Setting stuff up, 'splainin' to hubby about what was going on, finding friends.
Didn't actually warm up - 21 minutes from gun-time until my start...
