Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have seen an offhand reference in several threads about politics/tolerance where it seemed to be a pretty established assumption that we should all roll our eyes at the people who have the Co-exist bumper stickers. The one I see regularly is the one with each letter made of a form of a symbol of a major world religion, C is crescent for Islam, T is a cross for Christianity. OK so I see the irony of being cut off in traffic and honked at by a car with one of these, but the mocking seemed to be for the existence of them in the first place. So I ask, if you're someone who rolls your eyes at them, or makes negative assumptions about the driver of such a car, can you give me an honest reason as to why? |

I find it ironic that a couple of the religions displayed could not care less about coexistence with Christians or Jews. Again - right or wrong, that's the thought that immediately comes to mind. twomarks That's a pretty broad brush. Would it include Christians and Jews? |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is a generalization but much like you said, there are people that proudly display this stick only to flip off another driver, cut me off while I am riding my bike, and are intolerant of others that don't share their views. Not everyone...but many. Much like here in Colorado we have a "Respect Life" license plate that I believe was introduced after the Columbine tragedy. Nice idea, and every one should respct life. However, I am cut off by another vehicle while driving my family through the mountains and I notice the have RL license plate...I see some irony. They are showing no respect for anyone. Anyway, if a person really believes in the message, live it and proudly display whatever you want to on your vehicle. Otherwise, you are looking like a fool! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I roll my eyes at just about any sticker. I'm not sure why someone needs to tell everyone that they support these things. Whether it is the coexist sticker, the fish thing, your political views or that your kid is an honor student. I don't care. Now it really doesn't bother me that much, but is worthy of an eye roll. Now if you have a USAT sticker or MDot, 26.2, 13.1, etc, That's different.... |

When I get cut off in traffic and flipped the bird there is a good 50/50 chance they will have a Coexist or Peace symbol on their car somewhere. |

Race stickers can be tacky enough but the ones that really get me to roll my eyes are those such as coexist, church stickers, darwin fish, baby on board, etc. I believe for myself, it's just the idea that, in my experience, those that advertise some belief system have a tendency to take a "holier than thou" attitude and/or have some self entitlement "I'm special" issues. Sometimes I'd like to knock on their window and inform them that nobody really cares about their belief or that they have 17 children, two dogs and a turtle according to their family stickers but at the end of the day I don't really care enough to be bothered with doing so |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() Wait, people or getting upset about a bumper sticker? I guess I have too many important things to do than to worry about a bumper sticker. Like watching paint dry or water boil or the "off the air" color bars on tv. Unless it's a 140.6 sticker, I don't give a rat's arse. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() TriAya - 2012-08-08 4:10 PM That's an interesting question. Certainly people from those religions have exhibited some intolerance among their own ranks, but to answer your question, I wasn't referring directly to that. To be fair, yes, it was a broad brush, but TheClaaaw asked what my first impression was so I expressed it.Twomarkstwomarks - 2012-08-09 4:57 AM
Right or wrong, I see it as naive and I'm assuming that the coexist message is pointed to the Christian population.

I find it ironic that a couple of the religions displayed could not care less about coexistence with Christians or Jews.

Again - right or wrong, that's the thought that immediately comes to mind.

twomarks

That's a pretty broad brush. ![]() Most of the religion coexist stickers where I live are on holier than thou prius or honda hybrids with people who do 5 under the limit in the left lane then start driving echelon right so no one can pass and will flip you off if you even consider passing them. Buddy has this one, though: ![]() (edit) Let's try it less than thousand point font Edited by DanielG 2012-08-08 6:27 PM |

Sort of 'passive-aggressive, I need to tell the world my guns and I might open fire because your fuel efficient car offends me for some reason.' Nice. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There aren't a ton of them around Omaha, but as others have mentioned the eye roll for me is when the person exhibits the exact opposite in actions as to what the bumper sticker espouses. I'll also say that I have the same reaction when I see a Christian fish on a car that's speeding or cutting people off. Now for the gun Coexist sticker. It's full of awesome. Oh, and don't forget: |
