Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Having read about the benefits of Infinit, and wanting to simplify my race day nutrition for my 1/2 in September, I went out and purchased the Ironman Infinit blend. Because I would like to keep things to a minimum, I dialed the flavor back as I would like to mix up one 3 hour bottle for the ride. Can people tell me the best way to mix up this bottle, and then offer suggestions on how often you drink to consume the whole thing - and how much water you typically take at the same time. I plan to test it out during the next 4 weeks worth of rides. Thanks |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Everyone is a little different in all this stuff, so here is my method for 1/2 and full races... 3/1 concentration of Infinite in a large waterbottle on the down tube. (make sure it is completely mixed... i do this by mixing in a Nalgene bottle ahead of time and pouring the concentrate into the water bottle) I also use a 2 chamber aero bottle on the aerobars.
For 1/2 distance races, with the first "serving" in the aerobottle, I only need a 2x concentrate on the downtube, and for full distance races, I keep my second 3x concentrate at SN. (I can't do the fructose in Gatorade Endurance)

![]() | ![]() Since you asked about 1/2's, this is what I typically do and have done the last few races. 1. The aero bottle has 1 serving of mix/fluid to start the ride. 2. Seat Tube has 2 servings in a bottle. About a 1/2 mile out of the first aid station, I squeeze half of my concentrate into the aero bottle (which is now empty) in the aid station I grab water and top off my aerobottle. I now have a normal strenght hour of calories and liquid. Repeat at the next aid station. Unless its crazy hot I only need three bottles for a 1/2. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My strategy for HIM was pretty simple - mix one concentrated bottle of infinit (550 calories) for behind the seat and had water in my aero drink. I sipped the infinit every 10-15 minutes from the bottle. I refilled the water in my aero drink at every aid station. Having to mix things on the fly is too much thinking (for me) - I chose to keep it really simple - worked great - no issues. |

Keeping putting it in and mixing until you get all your scoops in there. I'm pretty dumb and the first time I did it, I put in 4 scoops and it was near impossible to get it to disolve. For my 4 hour bottle I would take two sips every 15 minutes. Worked perfectly. |

Considering this is my first 1/2, plus it's a bit long at 94km, and incredibly hilly, I will be out there for more than 3 hours. Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions. I think I'm going to just keep the aerobottle for water and one bottle on the downtube mixed for 4 hours and sip conservativley. Does anyone mark their concentrated bottles to make sure they are keeping up/or not getting ahead of themselves for scheduled drinks? i.e. A pen line showing how much of the concentrate you should have consumed in the first hour, second hour, etc.? |

Yup. For Steelhead I mixed a 3 serving concentrate bottle and marked each of the thirds so that I would know. I took 3 full servings even though I knew I wouldn't drink more than 2. More insurance than anything. What I didn't take into account - is that I mixed it for a 28oz bottle but my aerobottle doesn't hold nearly that much. So I had foaming bubbling stomach from too-concentrated Accelerade. Make sure you mix it so that you can water it down sufficiently. (Yes - lesson learned ... never do anything new on race day.) |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Make sure, make sure, make sure you do some practice with it. I found I really disliked anything over a 3 hour concentration. I used it for my HIM last year and basically had the practice of sipping from it every 20 minutes and then chasing it with water. I had practiced enough with it that I knew how much to take in each time I drank from it (typically 3-4 decent squirts followed by one to two good sips of water), and I always chased it with water. I only need a 3 hour bottle, but I took a couple of GUs with me as a back up in case it took me longer to do the course, or I accidentally lost my nutrition at some point. To consider when mixing, Infinit likes to foam at the top, when the mix is in the bottle, I will put just a little water in, and squeeze the bottle to mix it with the powder, then a little bit more, and so on. Don't just fill it fast or you'll have 3 inch head of foam and not enough water in that bottle to mix everything. |

Just remember, a 3 or 4 hour bottle has a LOT of calories in one sip. I did a lot of experimentation and started at 15 minutes, then 12, then found 10 was ideal. For me, it was a steadier stream of less calories rather than 4 shots an hour of more calories. Much easier to digest for me. If you have protein in your mix, it will foam. Usually jsut wait a bit and the foam goes down. If it's really bad, mix it up, put it in the fridge, in the a.m. the foam is gone and you can top it off. Don't see that anyone has said this, but you MUST follow every sip of concentrated Infinit with plain water (i.e, re dilute it in your system). You are not getting any hydration from teh Infinit mix. It will make digestion of calories much easier. So this will require at least one additional water source. For HIMs, I use one 3 hour bottle and one water bottle, replaced at aid stations. For my IM, I used teo 3 hour bottles. Whatever you do, practice with it before any race. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I make up 3.5-4 hr bottles for my 1/2 races. I've found the only good way to do this is to add ALL the powder first, then add water, then add more water as needed to hit my top marker on the bottle (I mark off 15-minute segments on my bottle so I drink the same amount every 15 mins during the race). I find it much easier to have 1 nutrition bottle and then use a double-bottle aerobottle for my water. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yeah, I should add that my stomach does not love hour after hour of Infinit. I do it every other hour, with gels, sports chews, etc. for the other hours. And I do chase it down with LOTS of water. In fact, all I do is Infinit and water. No sports drink on the side. The Infinit provides me with everything a sports drink does. OH! And I bought the water bottle that Infinit sells- it has line markers on it for you. |

Don't just fill it fast or you'll have 3 inch head of foam and not enough water in that bottle to mix everything. I don't tolerate anything super concentrated. So I do mine straight up, and bring more powder with me to make more bottles as I go. Or I supplement my calories with something else... like Powerbars. This is not the most efficient way of handling this, but it saves me from gastrointestinal issues. I'm targeting an IM too, so I figure the time it takes me to add some powder to a bottle with water and drink it is minimal, compared to the problems I'd have if I tried to drink it concentrated to save space or weight. I take off with 3 bottles of Infinit, mixed regular strength. Eat a Powerbar in the first hour, then in the second hour, make sure I get down a bottle of Infinit per hour. I will usually have another Powerbar around hour 4, so that pushes the last bottle of Infinit back a bit, so I don't overwhelm myself with calories. I notice I get hungry with a liquid only approach to fueling. I know this probably has something to do with the protein content of the liquid nutrition, but adding more protein is not an option at this stage in the game. I've noticed I don't digest protein very well while riding, anyway. If I go longer than 5 hours (which I typically do) I stop and mix the last bottle of Infinit. So far it's worked like a charm. I have not bonked or felt woozy or undernourished in any of my training rides or races. ------------------ Edited to Add... for a half, you should probably only need about 3 bottles. 2 on the back and one on the frame. Or an aerobottle and whatever other configuration you have setup. You wouldn't need to concentrate anything. ![]() Edited by Whizzzzz 2009-08-13 11:39 AM |

Perpeteum takes like hell after it gets warm. I can't even look at a bottle of Perpetuem anymore. I used for most of last year. Infinit is tolerable, even 5 hours into your ride @ 90+ degrees air temp. ![]() |

![]() | ![]() ejc999 - 2009-08-13 11:22 AM How many calories per scoop of Infinit? Is it the same for every blend or vary by blend? Two scoops is one serving but everyone has a different serving size. Infinit has like 10 different scoop sizes too....everyone is different. You'll even get a different scoop size then you normally receive on occasion. If the density of their supplying ingrediants changes, they change your scoop size. |

Isn't the Hammer product pre-made for the masses? Infinit is something you custom blend on the website. You can decide on flavor, protein, calories, etc. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How far in advance can I mix up the Infinit? I'm going camping this weekend and plan to bring my bike, but won't ride till the Monday, so I was hoping to mix up the Infinit on Saturday at home in the kitchen rather than at the campsite (plan on making a concentrated bottle). Can it sit for a few days - will that have any impact on it? |

![]() | ![]() All I've used this year is the Perpetuem. I've got the orange-vanilla flavor, and it's had a positive impact on my training. I was going to ask the same question. It seems that Infinit is the drink of choice for people on this page. Other than flavor, has anybody used both and noticed any kind of difference with your performance? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think I've gotten myself confused. I went to mix a 4 hour bottle - using a 600ml water bottle. I marked off 4 lines at 150ml each as this is how much I figure I need to consume per hour. Here's my issue - I put in 2 scoops and it goes right up to the first line!! How am I supposed to add water - is this how much powder I'm really supposed to add for each 150ml of water? Help needed. |

Add water and mix, then add more water till it reaches your top line. |
