Comments: Damn website hasn't posted results yet. I know that I was 11th for my AG. Just don't know how many guys were in my AG. 200 is a CONSERVATIVE number, given 1812 was the total (5 in my AG finished in the top 15 overall - yikes!!). I ran well. Earlier in the week I realized 1:40 was a given - I just didn't know how fast I could go. My first mile was slooow - 7:25. Reason being, I wasn't close enough to the starting line and was forced to navigate my way through slower runners. It took me about a 1/2 mile before I found "space". After that, I settled into a rhythm. Pace was relaxed - really!! I felt GREAT and proceded to knock out the miles. The first 8 were easy, whereupon I decided to save my extra gear for the final 5K (although I sooo wanted to cut loose cause I felt sooo good!!). My goals changed also. I went from wanting sub 1:40 to wanting sub 1:30 (although I knew this was a long shot)...at the very least I didn't want to be above 1:35. At mile 8, the 3:10 marathon pacer caught me... we ran neck and neck until mile 10, before I picked up the pace. Don't know how fast I went, but I did drop him!! However, I really didn't blitz the final 5K. I just didn't have the juice to "sprint" by this point. What would you do differently?: Be more daring and let it rip for the last 2 miles. I mean REALLY let it rip. I knew I was on pace for a good time, and I didn't want to risk it by flaming out. Second, I would take it out faster. I ran conservatively for the most part, if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong I am pleased... but more than anything the goal was to post a sub 1:40 time and set a bar... so I declined to challenge myself with a sub 7 pace from the get go, even though I felt sooo good. Post race
Warm down: Had a gatorade, used the facilities, then doubled back and found Shannon!! Ran the last 1/2 mile with her. What limited your ability to perform faster: My injury, which cost me 3 weeks of training. My conservative (again, relative) approach. Event comments: After Shannon finished, she herself doubled back to find her Mom and Sister while I settled down in a clearing and had several FREE micro brews!! Yum!! LOL. By now it was about 9AM!! Previous PB for 1/2 Marathon was 1:54 at Chicago Lakeshore last Spring!! I went 1:55 for the first half of the Detroit Marathon this Fall. I am gunning to qualify for BOSTON this Spring (although I think it is a long shot - Fall Marathon will mostly likely be THE race). For a "supplemental" RR check out my blog on Tuesday!! (Shannon should be...concerned =).) Last updated: 2005-02-20 12:00 AM

I drank mucho water on Friday and had a great pasta dinner with Shannon that evening. She is sooooo cool!! Awesome host!! GOODNESS.
Woke up at 4:30AM, showered, ate a Clif bar and had a glass of water. I brought a running outfit with me to MB, but Shannon took me shopping... and I purchased a Sacouney (sp?) outfit for $30!!
She picked me up outside the hotel at 5:45AM.
We arrived at the race course at 6AM. We waited in the car for a bit. Heated seats!! Did I say Shannon was cool??
Exited car 10 minutes prior to race. I talked with Shannon for a bit before I began working my way toward the front. I ended up being about 20 yds from the starting line.
