DNF'd Tri, Can I wear race t-shirt?

Pro  4481    Reston |  Subject: DNF'd Tri, Can I wear race t-shirt?So I had an unfortunate cleat-dismantling incident in my race on Sunday and was forced to DNF. I've never DNF'd before. My question is, can I still wear the race t-shirt? My stance is that I had every intention of finishing, but was forced out by something beyond my control. Don't want to look like a poseur though if someone asks me about the race. What do ya'll think? |

Regular 104 | Subject: RE: DNF'd Tri, Can I wear race t-shirt? If you had quit 1/2 through the swim I would say "No, you probably shouldn't wear the shirt". But you had an equipment manlfunction. I think any reasonable person would be okay with you wearing it. Go for it! |

I have one race that I DNS-ed because of an injury. It's a tech t-shirt and I wear it as a layer in the winter. It doesn't say anything about the race on it - just "Cardiac Wellness Centre" so I don't feel so bad about it. |

Up until now I've said no, don't wear the shirt but after last weekend I'm not so sure I still hold that opinion. I know many people that've not finished WS 100 and proudly wear the gear, you have to qualify and get your name picked to race it, furthermore 57% did NOT finish the race this year, including Dean Karnazes (50 marathons 50 days guy) and Scott Jurek (7 time WS winner). I'm tempted to wear the gear, but I'll also be the first to explain I've not finished the race....YET Furthermore I did not quit, I was forced stop by the medical staff, can't hold this trix down. Uhm, didn't you run, like 49 miles of that race? If ANYONE were to question you wearing the gear it should be pretty easy for you to say "you go run 49 f-ing miles up some crazy mountain and come back and tell me how YOU feel". |

I've never ever gotten asked about a race when I've worn a race shirt...except for the one time I was wearing a boyfriend's race shirt (I never even did the race; unfortunately, I wasn't even there to see him do it). Someone standing behind me on an escalator saw it and was like, "Oh, I've heard that's a great race, how was it?"
I think you're OK to wear the shirt. |
