I swim in the morning and my leave my wet clothes in my truck all day...then I run at lunch and leave my sweaty clothe in there too.  I also leave spare bars of soap in my truck for the showers at the gym I always seem to be taking.  So my truck has this unique musty, sweat-cholrine-wet clothes-soap smell!  Can anyone relate?

Dude!  Take a couple of extra plastic grocery bags and stash them in your car.  Put you wet or stank clothes in the bag and tie it off.  While we triathletes don't mind the smell of success others might just think you stink.

Zalinski: Went a little heavy on the pine tree perfume there, kid.
Tommy: Sir, it's a taxi cab air-freshener.
Zalinski: Great, you've pinpointed it Step two is washing it off.

The 'smell of success'.  I like that!

i use my toolbox or a rubbermaid tote box in the bed.  that way the cab smells normal and i dont have to worry about my wife smelling anything funky when she gets in.

Just chlorine. I don't mind it smelling like a pool when I dry the towel and trunks. Everything else gets put into a bag until I get home.

I live in a tiny NYC apartment, probably slightly bigger than your trunk, with another triathlete. Hoo boy do we stink.

Sorry, can't relate.

I workout after work... so I got straight home and nothing sweaty/wet stays in my car all day. Not this year at least.

Last year if I swam in the morning, I made sure to lay my bathing suit out in the car so it would dry.

On the days when I run during lunch from the office, I end up leaving my sweaty running gear hanging in my trunk.  I fold down the rear seat backs so the pass-through is open to the car and then I crack all of my windows open enough to let fresh air inside all afternoon.  That seems to work.

Your swimsuit will last forever if you rinse it in shower after swim, and dry it flat on your towel in car all day while you're at work.  Your car will not last forever with this arrangement, though.  I leave my running shoes and various tri clothes in car/gym bag.  Brand new Honda '09, already smells like locker room!

Yuck. No.
I accidentally left my bike shoes in my car once overnight and basically had to apologize to the person riding in my car the next day. I guess if you're not embarassed by a foul smelling car, ok... but I am.

No.  I can't stand to have a dirty/stinky/messy vehicle.  I don't drive much though as I ride my bike most places.  I ride to the pool or a nearby lake for my swim work outs and I can run/bike from my front door.

Yes.

My Honda Element is a second locker room. At any given time there's at least one pair of running shoes, one pair of cycling shoes, a helmet, a bag of swim gear, cycling kit, running kit, and a towel. Often there's a bike or two in there as well.

I try not to leave dirty clothes in it overnight.

Like someone else on this thread, my dog doesn't seem to mind and I'm really not looking for approval from anyone else.

+1 for keeping a rubbermaid tub to contain gym funk.

I have an Scion xB, so no trunk to ditch the gear in.

Mine stinks to high heaven. Running shoes, bike shoes, wet workout clothes..

My daughters are now refusing to get in there when my shoes are in it.

On a good note, Once the stuff is all out, the smell goes away. So it's not embedded. Maybe.

x100 on Febreeze.

Funny timing of this thread - my wife took my car grocery shopping and forgot a pork roast in the trunk for a week!  (I don't drive my car every day)  The car smells like I have a dead body in the trunk.

One friend of mine suggested Febreeze - nope, only slightly covered up the smell.

Another friend who cleans up crime scenes suggested vinegar - nope, didn't work either.

Now my car has the unique smell of vinegar, febreeze, and decomp.  I've pretty well decided I'm going to have to trade it in as a clunker.
