![]() | ![]() The time with our unwelcomed guest, who claimed to be from the City of Brotherly Love, made me think about what I like about living in Philadelphia. I moved here almost twenty years ago, and in some ways, I will never be a native (I left my heart in Utica, NY;-)), but I've come to really love this place. Here's my quick list of what I love about Philadelphia: • Living between two rivers, the infamous Schuylkill and the historic Delaware • Italian hoagies with onions and spicy mustard • Hip Hop culture • The Philadelphia Orchestra • Will Smith • Living across the street from Fairmount Part, one of the largest urban parks in the world, where I can run and bike (especially mountain bike) to my heart's content • The most passionate sports fans I've ever met • The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper • WIP, 24 a day sports talk radio • Quakers (my wife is born and bread) • Our food coop down the block • City people!!! What do you love about where you live? Or, what do you love about your home town? Edited by dontracy 2005-02-18 1:41 PM |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have only lived in my tiny little town in NC for 7 months, but some nice things about it are: Everyone waves If mail is delivered to the post office with the wrong address, it still gets to me Half of the residents speak a dialect of Southern that I don't understand The food! God bless barbecue! Things I don't like: I can't get a healthy meal anywhere nearby unless I cook it myself Big trucks + small roads = danger on a bike Everything closes by 7 No women |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great thread! I'll have to print these out when I'm planning my vacation. You all can do the same, because I'm SURE you'll want to take your family to Winnipeg instead of Disney World What I love about winnipeg (my adopted home):
You know what? There are so many things to whine about concerning Winnipeg. An ugly downtown, suburban sprawl, too many strip malls, small-town mentality ..... It's VERY nice to have to sit down and write out what I like about it. |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Don, I live in Philly as well. So, here's my $.02 for what I love about Philly: -Finding a new restaurant/bar/hangout/running trail every weekend. -2 hrs from the ocean & the mountains. -Yuengling Lager (they drink it like water here). -Being able to ride the wave as Philly reintroduces multisport endurance racing into the city. What I don't like: "Philly's as cold as Boston in the Winter, as hot as Atlanta in the Summer and can be as expensive as New York...what's their not to love!" Steve |

Hey, wait a minute ... this town sucks! :-( |

I work in a NW suburb of Chicago, and on clear days, I can see the Sears tower in the far far far distance.... and it always makes me smile... I also appreciate the fact that:
Now I'm just rambling... I wonder why I stay in Chicago every winter... and I'm reminded every summer. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Denver Do I have to anything more than THE MOUNTAINS? How about winter in THE MOUNTAINS. Spring in THE MOUNTAINS. SUMMER in THE MOUNTAINS. Fall in THE MOUNTAINS. And there are more registered dogs than voters in Summit County where I used to live. Although I do miss the food from NY - PIZZA & Deli's & bagels especially. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would much rather being saying "what I love about San Diego", but I moved away from there a year ago and if I start the list, I may start to cry! Have I stated how much I miss living in paradise?? OK, so I will say how much I love NOW living in New Orleans.... 1. Mardi Gras 2. The cajun food 3. The food in general 4. The drive-thru daiquiri shops on every corner (see today's workout log for further info) 5. The right to have a parade for...well...everday that ends in "Y" 6. Bourbon Street 7. The music (jazz, blues, etc,) 8. The boobs on Bourbon Street (hey, I am single and you just knew it had to make the list!!) Actually, most of what I saw should NOT be allowed to raise their tops in public!!! YUCK!!! Well, I could go on and on, but would just be repeating numbers 1-7 over and over again, but then again....that is Nawlins! |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Maritimes; 1 - the people, humble and friendly. The salt of the earth. 2 - fresh lobster year round. 3 - The ocean & beaches 4 - Donairs, you have to experience it to understand it. 5 - It is where I met my wife and where my kids were born. 6 - I kinda like being called a "Bluenoser". 7 - The lifestyle, slow relaxed. You can always stop by and a cup of tea and biscuits are yours. 8 - Best of all, the steamed mussels in a garlic white wine sauce. Honestly, come on up, tea, biscuits and some mussels will be provided. |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry, but I have to do it. What I love about San Diego... That in the winter I can surf in the morning, head out to the mountains and play in the snow in the afternoon and go out to the desert to 4 wheel or ride motorcycles in the evening. That it has to be the safest big city in the U.S. (even the crooks are laid back) That I can play outside all year long That on Saturday and Sunday mornings along the coast and the mountains, you will find more bikes than cars. That a lot of pro triathletes live and train out here. It is nothing to see Jurgen Zack(sp), Katja Schumaker (sp), Paula, Jessi and others riding and running on the weekend. That my property value has shot up so high that if I sold my house I could buy half of Iowa. (Lord knows I couldn't buy another house here ![]() That I can race in 9 or 10 triathlons a year, all within 20 miles of my house. That you would be hard pressed to find 10 smokers in one day. That there are more bike shops than liquor stores along the coast. That we have the best Mexican food, Second only to Mexico. That we are a racially diverse city, that is very tolerant of other cultures. That we have some of the best family places. The San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, Sea World and Legoland That our sports fans are so laid back(or fair weathered), that you can go to a Charger, Soccers or Padres game on game day and still get good tickets (from the box office, not a scalper) And finally because it's not L.A. (joke) |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Los Angeles 1. Plenty of work that pays well. 2. Good weather 99% of the year. 3. Driving distance to Santa Barbara, San Francisco, San Diego, and Las Vegas. 4. Anything desired can be bought. 5. Plenty of triathlons within driving distance. 6. So many hot chicks, that ain't no joke. 7. So many awesome hole in wall type food joints. 8. Awesome fast food joints (In-N-Out, Tommy's, Pink's, etc.) 9. If it's not happening in New York, then it's happening here. 10. Every outdoor activity within driving distance (skiing, surfing, etc.) |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've lived in 12 states and Korea and they all had there own flare. I enjoyed the Washington for it's beauty and wonderful hiking. Wyoming also was great wilderness. California has a little bit of everything you could ask for and some stuff you dont want as well. Texas, well you can go wrong with Texas or beat the BBQ. Arizona has nice winters and a rugged nostalgia to it. It also has great hikes. Louisiana was full of flare and they know how to get down and eat good food. Mississippi, well okay I could pass but I did meet the grandson of Byron de la Beckwith who swears his grandfather didn't shoot Medgar Evers. Nice guy but I think he was giving gramps a little too much benefit of the doubt. Georgia was okay but in my opinion nothing you can't get elsewhere. Florida, what can I say. Hot women, beaches, great weather. South Carolina, a sub par florida. North Cackalcky, sub par south cackalcky on the east coast but you cant beat some of the hiking on the west side. West Virginia, well MARHSALL UNIVERSITY for one!! It has some major flaws but it's also got some great scenery. Korea, korean girls are cute and the people are the friendliest this side of the globe if you make a concerted effort to speak a little hangul. For a small country there is good hikes and good spicy bites. The old guy also know how to throw down some soju. |

I also appreciate the fact that:
Now I'm just rambling... I wonder why I stay in Chicago every winter... and I'm reminded every summer. Not to start anything....but Chicago has one of the most affordable housing markets based on the size of the city. You can't get the home price you can in Chicago in any other city and still get what Chicago has to offer.....lakefront, museums, restaurants, plays/theater, etc, etc, and so forth. We got it MADE in Chicago! Our home prices are increadibly reasonable for what you get in the city you live in. Sure you can find cheaper homes in Indiana or Nebraska or Texas but most cities in those states don't have the job growth we have, the economy we have, the diverse cultural events we have, the....etc, etc, and so forth. just my $0.02, IMHO, FWIW, etc, etc, and so forth... |
