Champion 7347![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SRQ, FL | Subject: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterHe decided to visit me for the first time on Thursday about 3AM. That was probably the last time I could complete a sentence. There is no way to describe the constant pain involved in one of these suckers. Well maybe try this: Stick a butterkinfe in the smal of your back. Twist it sround for the first 3 hours until the ER pain meds kick in. Go home wih some percocet and occasionally (right before you fall asleep) twist the knife again. Oh yeah thow in a lot of reflex vomitting from the pain. It's a real good ab workout. Good weight loss too, down about 10lbs so far. I'm getting a bit crazy here. I had to stop taking the pain killers due to some stomach issues (I invented a new yoga pose however) so it's mano e stone-o. Since it has not yet passed (day 4) so I made a deal with the stone this AM. I understood it's job was to cause agony and it agreed it had done it's job so we decided it should be gone by Sunday night. However I don't trust the little bugger. I think he had his fingers crossed. I bet the government bailout will prevent the eviction My wife is worried I'm talking to the stone. My guess is they (yeah another one sitting in my left kidney, a ticking time bomb) came from not hydrating enough while training here in hot sunny Florida. I do not fit any of the other "risk" criteria. So PLEASE drink your liquids. This is NOT a fun deal. I'm praying for a natural passing. If not Wednesday the Dr. might be going the wrong way on a one way street if you know what I mean (ugh)..

Tim Deboom made it a few miles into Kona while having a kidney stone attack! How bad can it be?! ;-) J/k....I've been there, done that a few times. Hard to explain to someone who's never had an attack how painful they are. Hope ya pass it and recover soon! |

Expert 1215![]() ![]() ![]() Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterWere you sprawled out on the floor at any point? You have not had a kidney stone unless you are laid out on the floor! On a serious note, lemonade is supposed to help prevent future kidney stones. I have been drinking the stuff regularly since my stone last year. My stone first said hello to me during a 24 hour mtb event. No, I did not finish the race.

Veteran 207![]() ![]() Ottawa, Ontario | Subject: RE: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterI feel your pain and I was there two weeks ago. It was my second at least this time I was at home and not in Hong Kong. I can tell you this much the first I had Morphine and was loopy and the second one I had demerol and was equally loopy but different...all good though mine usually pass in the first 36hours so far. For me passing through the Urethra was nothing compared to that back pain. On another note, it is not necessarily dehydration, this is pretty much a cop out for docs in my opinion. They don;t even know what type of stone it is and won't until you strain it and take it in to the lab. I have heard one theory that relates to where you live and the amount of flouride in the drinking water...there are many others but not just dehydration. Brian |

Laid out on the floor, leaning on counters, laying in chairs beds, of the edge of my stairs. Anything to get comfortable (which you cannot). Having a "good" (which just means less painful) moment right now. However day 5 is starting to annoy me. I'm thinking about jumping jacks to get this sucker to move... And yes the back pain is worse than anything else. It's just so constant and intense. Giving it till Wednesday and then I'm having it removed. I can't afford to let my business run itself past that... |

Ive had two bouts with it now and I ended up in ER both times with lots of morphine. Both times I lived in the upstairs unit of a apartment complex and I thought about calling a ambulance just to get me down the stairs since I could not move! Wehn the puking starts its even better, more pain on top of the pain! 5days though?! Go get the surgery to help it, that will be wayyyy less painful |

Master 1662![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Flagstaff and Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterOh no! I hope you get rid of the suckers soon! I've had two pass, about 10 years apart. No pain like it. Nothing helps until they're out and the UTI is healed. Good luck! I also didn't fit any risk groups, never caught the stones. So, I don't know what to avoid in food or drink. But, like you said, drinking lots helps and can prevent the recurrence to a degree. Here in dry AZ, I try for a gallon of water/day, in addition to other drinks like tea or juices. |

Champion 7347![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SRQ, FL | Subject: RE: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterWell last night was agony. For whatever reason hot shower and/or the hot tube did not help with the pain as it has before. I ended up taking a double dose of precocet to knock me out. This AM I awoke with no pain... YIPPIE... Then about 2 hours ago it started to throb again. Crap! So I am scheduled to have it removed Thursday AM. Anyone ever had a stent put in? How did it feel in relation ot the stone itself? I have heard it can be painful as well. We are supposed to go on a trip this weekend. Not sure if that is going to be an option or not? To be honest my real concern is having it removed. I'l be wide awake for that one. |

Veteran 185![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterlithotripsy is the least invasive...as for how much it hurts I will tell you tomorrow afternoon... My second stone had to be surgically removed (yes the wrong way up the road)and the stent they put in caused me much pain days after the surgery and up until they removed the damn thing...but they tell me now that things are a little different...well the hell if I am finding out...I'm set up for the lithotripsy at 10 am... Hey one good thing...if its hurting then its moving...have you gone and had a CT scan done?...how large was it...where was it...if its a smaller one (3mm or less) you really need to just hold out and pass it...once it gets to the bladder the pain will stop... |

No kidding on the stent. And wait until you wake up and the string is gone. That is definitely an uh oh moment... 3 stones in 3 straight years. Wouldn't wish them on anybody. These things are straight out of hell.

Extreme Veteran 552![]() ![]() ![]() Minnetonka Beach, MN | Subject: RE: Hydrate lest ye be visited by the Kidney Stone monsterBeen down this exact path... the Stent and the surgery aren't the issue as you mentioned. The removal is the interesting part! (there is a chance that it won't be needed, but unlikely) The the "local" anesthetic, there isn't much pain, it's just plain weird. I went on a trip to Hawaii 2 days after having the stent removed. No problems at all...
