Sipping Whiskey

You can go the Booker's (Small Batch) route - but you must be careful - he packs a larger punch than most.  Since it is bottled unfiltered and with no water addition - it comes out on the 125 proof side.  Ka-bang!!!

I like Blanton's Single Barrel and I like Hancock's Special Reserve Single.  Evan Williams is also a nice guy.

Basil Hayden is of the Rye variety (think Old-GrandDad)

Maker's Mark is my standby. 

I don't think you will have much luck finding another 18 year old that is better than Elijah, though. 

Jack Daniels is fighting whiskey, not sipping whiskey.

I'm leaning toward Bookers. it's in sale at the ABC now.

That's why you have to go with Gentleman Jack, he's a sipper not a fighter.   For bourbon, would go Makers Mark, for Tenessee whiskey would go Gentleman  Jack, for Irish whiskey would go Jameson.

Sticking purely with the bourbon varieties, I personally think that Makers Mark is overrated and is not nearly as smooth and tasty as a lot of others at a similar price point.  My favorite standby (relatively cheap and good) is Bulleit.  Woodford Reserve, and Knob Creek are both good and easy to find.  Some of the others already mentioned are great, such as Blanton's and Basil Hayden.  If you really have money burning a hole in your pocket try to find some Pappy Van Winkle.  You'll pay dearly for it, so it one you'll want to hide away for a special occation.

That's exactly right, sipping whiskey is for special occasions and small doses. It's usually pricey stuff. If it's not old enough to vote, at least its voice should be changing

Mixing whiskey is usually the middle-shelf stuff, George Dickel, Makers Mark, Wild Turkey, Regular Elijah Craig. It's good enough to drink on its own too, but it just doesn't have that last little 1% that kicks it over into the realm of sipping stuff.

Fighting whiskey, Jack Black, Evan Williams, Henry McKenna.

whiskey-flavoured Paint thinner = Fighting cock, Aristocrat, etc.

The last bourbon I ever drank was Booker's (and I've only ever sipped any whiskey... mixing and shooting are for alcohol you don't like), which is a Jim Beam product. I liked it quite a bit and would recommend it.

Then I found out that I was allergic to corn, so now I only drink Irish Whiskey (well, not right now... they tell me fetuses don't like whiskey). Jameson and Bushmills are essentially interchangeable and I've not spent the money to get any deeper into Irish Whiskey.

Ohhh - they like it - they just get a super bad and permanent hangover.

Now hat I have examined the list - I would like to try the Noah's Mill please.

Like others who've noted above, Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Knob Creek are all very good.  HOWEVER (slight hijack here), for sipping, I really, really love a nice single malt.  Oban, Dahlwhinnie, Lagavulin, Talisker, Clynelish are probably my favorites...drink it "neat" with just a splash of spring water and life is very good...
