lol. when they did all the close-ups on the bikes and gears and pedals, i immediately thought, ooh, look, bike porn! "my a$$ hurts." "yeah, don't worry, it'll go numb soon." nice.

short(ish) rant: lately the editing on BL has started to get on my nerves a bit. the trainers splitting from the teams was soooo over the top. the slow motion/black & white footage recalling all those touching workouts, plus the bed of tearjerker music underneath was a bit much for me. everyone acted like someone had freakin' died, bob sobbing like a baby. honestly, sometimes i feel like this show is climbing up the ranks to extreme makeover home edition status. *puke*

ok, end rant. just had to say that.

p.s. oh, wait, one more: anyone else feel that using ziploc storage bags to keep fruit fresh was a bit of a super incredibly lame "nutrition" tip? someone please tell them to stop condescending to the viewers. "if jillian says it and all the contestants sit there and nod like it's amazing advice, maybe nobody will notice it's a commercial."

wow, i'm in a mood tonight. lol.

This is Bob.  He's a fitness trainer, and he cries like a little girl because some of his really really close friends have started wearing different color t-shirts from him.

HTFU, Bob.

Seriously...

Wow!  A challange I (we) can relate to!  We have all seen our fair share of trainer time!

Several thoughts:

I did feel bad for the teams.  I'm sure you get connected to team mates and trainers, so I bet it was hard.  It's going to be REALLY hard when they have to vote off former team mates.  Personally, I might like the switch in trainers.

The ziplock commercial was nausiating.  I did the same thing any time a real commercial comes on.  Changed the channel for 30 seconds...

Back to the challange.

First, it would suck if they couldn't adjust the bike.  It could really be uncomfortable if you had longer legs, and had to ride on some tiny bike with the seat too low.  Technically, it could have caused injury if it was too out of wack for some people...

Second, I'm sure you couldn't change the resistance, but I wonder if you could have changed gearing?

Third.  I like the strategy of 30min on, then 2.5 hours off.  However, if were me, I would have prefered to do an hour on, then 5 off.  You can shower, get better rest, eat better....  But maybe they couldn't handle an hour.

Fourth, if they split the time evenly, they only needed to do 4 hours each.  Not too tough.  I still would have prefered to do 4 shifts instead of 8.  Tara (again, if they split the time evenly) averaged about 12.5 mph.  Not too shabby.  I really hope she does well.  She is just SO good.

Fifth.  Cione.  Good on him for not quiting and talking everyone else into continuing.  I was actually on the same page of all them just calling it quits.  But he even convinced ME!

That is all.

Remember, another hour tomorrow night....

Actually I think your rant is totally justified.  The show is really starting to pi$$ me off.  I like that they are getting the help they need but do we have to put up with the weepy crap.  The whole Bob thing made me laugh.  Tonight I realized that that this show might be running out of steam.  Oops, I think I just hijacked your rant...sorry.  Maybe if I go stuff my head in a ZipLock bag, it will change my attitude to something fresher.

I'm not sure if Bob's crying accompanied by the music and montage was the low point or the high point in the history of the show.  ;-)  I think Sione covered up with his hoody because he was laughing at Bob.

Would have been so much better if they cut out half the drama of switching trainers! Are you kidding me! You still get to see the other one every day! Whiny babies. And the musical montage was way over the top. Must've been low on footage or something.

The change in routine will be good for them!

I also thought they were being wimpy for wanting to quit the bike challenge. Good on Sione for calling them out on it!

It occurred to me last night that we've gotten so wrapped up in these guys losing weight that we seem to have forgotten that this IS A TV SHOW built for ratings.

As for the rants, I agree and started to think the same thing - but then realized that I WAS watching an NBC prime time reality show and NOT the Body Challange on Discovery Health.

I really liked the bike thing.  I can believe someone wanted to quit the challange, but couldn't believe the actually tried to make it a collective thing and admitted out loud that they wanted to be a "quitter."

As for Cione's comment about how he didn't push himself when working out for Jillian - it just shows me that things haven't clicked in for him - he should push himself for HIMSELF not his trainer.

The team switch was a little "over the top," but the players this season are such nice people - NBC is getting at a loss for some actual drama.

i actually agree with the switch.. me and some other trainers were discussing.. my thoughts were.. the change in trainers will help them get pass the plateau(contestant bodies have adpated to workouts).. bob and jillian are very different trainers.. different workouts means more weight loss..big numbers will still come.

the was emotional break down was odd.. what made it funny was the skull ring.. a sensitive guy wearing a skull ring... should make it a daisy or something..

True. Last season they had a bunch of people really playing the game and that irked me too. I actually really like that they care about people needing to be on the ranch and who can do it at home.  But it isn't very dramatic.

Anyway, I didn't know Discovery's Body Challenge was still going. I loved that show a few years ago!

I was really annoyed that they were all using the same bike and not adjusting it.  Several of the contestants were complaining that their knees hurt.  Of course they hurt!  That's what happens when your seat is too low!

I think they could change the gearing.  It looked like some people were pedaling against more resistance than other people.

Having a strategy for intervals was really smart.  I can't believe both teams didn't do that.  I would have rather done an hour at a time, too, but they seemed to be having a hard time with the half hour they were doing.  Guess it worked out for them.

I'm not even going to touch the drama about switching trainers except to say that maybe Bob should start acting more like a professional and focus less on how he feels about it.

I got hooked on the show in season 3 I think.

Bob pretty much has always seamed like a girlie-man.  Sure he has some great ideas, Jillian comes across like a she devil; but I think she has shown time and again that she can get the fat off.  I think she seams to look into the players hearts, for what the mental aspect is that keeps them fat.  Bob just works the physical side.  I have never seen him, talking about any emotional issue the contestants could be dealing with.

The mix up is a normal part of the show now, I think it helps to keep it fresh.  I also think it will force these players to start to play the game.

The trainer ride actually made more sense to give the 30 on and 150 off.  You can push harder for 30 minutes and recover over the time off.  Since these players are not endurance athletes, it make more sense.  It paid off big time for the black team.  They won huge, and that 3 pounds will be hard to over come.  I see Ron going home tonight, unless something changes.  The only way that will not happen is if Black gets to vote who goes home.  If black votes then I see Dane going home, because I think he is one of the biggest threats.

I too thought this week might have been an all time low. The editing/flashbacks and Bob crying was a little much, then they cue the lamest sad music, and not just for a few seconds. It seemed to go on forever. I had to fight off the part of me that was screaming "that is it.... you are no longer allowed to watch this crap" just because I like the show.

Then Jillian enlightened me about Ziploc bags.
"Fresh food goes bad quickly"
"Ziploc creates an airtight seal and locks in the freshness"

I then realized that I was wrong to question the show and this show is great.

Yep.  What's he going to to when he leaves the ranch.  Bob can't live with him....  At some point, he will need to do it on his own.  But maybe it was just talk...  something 'nice' to say to get the point across that he misses Bob.

1)  Jenni-O comment made me LOL.

2)  Bob, what the heck is wrong with you?

3)  I love that Jillian makes it about the contestants CHOICES from the get go.  She says she doesn't care if they do it or not just to drive home the point that it's THEIR life etc.  I love that.  Which is why I already said I did in my first sentence...

4)   I get so freakin emotional watching this show.  It always surprises me, too.  This week, it was during the first real scene!  When it was tied at 99 all between Green and Blue and she won...just...the crazy emotions that go with that kind of all out effort AND winning are so incredible I just got all weepy.  Didn't weep, but was "weepY."  =)

I  know.  He is a trainer...  Just train...  That's his job.  I know he probably takes a personal interest in his team.  But that was a little odd to me.

Meh. This was too direct and non-misleading. You need to make people think you're about to say something incredibly helpful and insightful about training.

Like this:

"You know, some of you haven't been on the BT forum with the rest of us for a long time, so we should really talk about weight training and how important that is for your fitness level. What I like to do is carry a pacakge of frozen Jenn-O Ground Turkey around with me on a long run to help build muscle." [And then everyone on BT should do the forum equivalent of an enthusiastic nod].

<<== See? Sufficiently useless information presented in a completely non-sequitorial manner. Stupid and silly non-commercial commercial accomplished.

You forgot to mention that after you have carried the bag around to help build muscle, that you can either cook it for the protein, or use the blood that has pooled in the bag to stay hydrated.

the informercials drive me freaking up the wall.

REALLY what they are kind of saying, is that the 'healthy' thing to do/eat/buy is whoever pays enough to get it on the show.

The tips they give at the commercial breaks (like eating the high calorie/fats last and filling up on high fiber/low cal stuff) is good info...

But apparently, eating yogurt is a good snack opposed to fruits or veggies, because Yoplait is willing to pay more to advertise...

They could at least say eating an apple, some nuts, OR yogurt, if they wanted to be fair...

the most agrevating was the one where Bob wanted them to throw out perfectly good oatmeal that was already prepared, to eat some box of cereal...  If I were quaker, I would file a protest...
