Subject: Improve your cycling power over the winter.

As some of you know last year I offered a winter cycling plan to increase your power and get you ready for the start of specific tri training. The plan was like 12-14 weeks (holidays in between) and most of the feedback I got was very positive with those who followed the plan consistently posting great gains. Some people experienced over 205 power gains! I personally experienced great cycling imporvements and I am looking forward to keep on building on top of that.

I am planning to revise the plan and start it again on Nov 1st (somewhere around there) and I want to remind those who have PM that yes the plan will be ON and those who want to improve their cycling over the weekend are welcome to join. The plan is power based but I'll also offer an alternative for those training with HRM or by RPE.

Stay tunned and when I have more details I will post; the thread most likely will be on the challenge forum as it will be a challenge for those joining to stick with it! This is my way to give back to BT and its members so of course it is a join the fun and do the work kinda thing.

PM if you have any questions.

Last year was great. I'm looking forward to another round of pain.

Thanks again so much for doing this, Jorge!

Outstanding. I followed your plan last off season and loved it and was just starting it again this year. I'm looking forward to another 12-14 weeks of pain.

Did not jump on the ball last year, but I am definitely all for the challenge this time around. Hopefully, this will push me over the edge and help with a base for IMKY next year....

Awesome!  I'm in!  The majority of the event is on the bike so any improvement there will be great!  Thank you for providing an alternative for those of us without a PM.

Is this a free plan? Is it a training group? What's the basic idea with this stuff?

Some corrections/notes.

On my OP I meant to say: some people experienced 20% + gains in power. In general the avg was around 15% from those who trained consistently and shared the info before and after the plan.

The plan is free; it will be an updated version from last year but the focus will be very similar.

I guess you can call it a training group but to make more interactive this year we can keep more interesting by making in a challenge and monitor progress.

The plan will break down in cycles focusing on 3 main things:

1. Increase your VO2 max (max aerobic capacity) to set the tone for the plan
2. Increase your 20 min power to complement VO2 max and accentuate power gains @ Maximum Lactate Steady State (MLSS) popularly referred as LT.
3. Increase your cycling Tempo power to improve your endurance.

In additon the plan will have an optional weekly longish ride to complement the training load and ehlp those with early long distance races.

The plan will have on avg 3 riding sessions of 1 hr + the optional longish (2-3 hrs) weekend ride.

Addressing these various adaptations should help us to efficiently increase your power threshold significantlly and set us up very well to handle greater training loads once our specific tri training begins. Since many of us have limited time and will be affected by the weather/holidays through the winter IMO the return on investement we'll get from just doing 3-5 hrs of cycling x week will be substantial *if* you do the work of course.

Go out and buy a big industrial fan now to cool yourself off..

last year I put my trainer under the ceiling fan and while it worked ok it wasn't until the other day when I got my floor fan out of the closet, and put it in front of the bike that I noticed what I huge difference a powerful fan has on your ability to keep cool while you are pushing hard on the trainer

Heehee...I feel you.  My wish to improve on the bike may or may not have to do with my boyfriend crushing me on the bike each and every time we go for a ride.
