Queen BTich 12411 , | Subject: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! Well I've only found one friend willing to do this with me. (I'm sure we've all muttered those words, and the following, many times)...Everyone else thinks I'm crazy, but, I think if I can train for an IM then this isn't a big deal. But, I started running before tri's so, maybe thats why it doesn't phase me. For anyone else "goofy" (get it?!) enough, I will be there. Sat. Jan. 7, 2006 -Disney Half Marathon + Sun. Jan 8, 2006-Disney Marathon = 39.3 MILES!! So, for one fun filled weekend, you wil recieve a Donald Duck half marathon medal, the coveted Mickey Mouse ears marathon medal, AND a bonus 3rd GOOFY medal for completing both!!! I AM SO EXCITED! I can't remember being so excited about a race! Think about the bragging rights...BRING IT ON!!! http://disneyworldsports.disney.go.com/dwws/en_US/marathon/events/d... ventDetailPage |

Master 1359 South of SLC | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! Wow! I have run half-centuries in one day, but I think what you are doing would be tougher. That is really impressive! What if you were the overall winner in both? I would hum a really low note in reverence each time your name was spoken. Mike |

Master 1558 Pensacola, Fl | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! That is pretty cool. When I did the Disney marathon, the half was the same day. If either of the other two medals are as cool as the Mickey Mouse Marathon medal.....it will be well worth it!!! definitely my favorite medal of my marathons! Damn, I was thinking of doing RNRAZ, now you've got me leaning toward Disney...... |

Expert 1166 Colchester, CT | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! That would be an interesting double to tri. I've done marathons on back to back weekends, and though the second was pretty painful, it wasn't all that bad. Now if I could just convince my wife...I might be in.... Chris |

Elite 3223 Hendersonville | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! Here in Tampa we have the Gasparilla Marathon in February. They have a category for people who do any combination of the 5K, 15K, half marathon, and marathon. The web site is www.tampabayrun.com, although it is under construction right now. So maybe think about coming to Tampa instead and do one of the challenges and compete with others doing the same thing. Congrats on setting a challenging goal for yourself! Jessica |

Expert 704 Durham, CA | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! I'm not quite up to the GOOFY challenge- but the marathon looks interesting. I've been looking for a long race, sometime in the Jan-march time frame, and this one just might work (also helps that my son is 11, and would love to see the east coast version of Disney's creation). This would be my first marathon, so flat is good (I'm assuming that being in florida, it has to be flat). How is the race? Well organized, etc???Dennis Edited by slow&steady 2005-06-05 1:09 PM |

Well organized, etc???Dennis Dennis, Disney was my first marathon, so it will always be memorable to me, but really I would only rate it a 6 on a scale of 10. Two biggest drawbacks:
As with everything Disney, the race is relatively expensive ($95), you do get the nice medal but a very cheap, plainish Tshirt. It's also difficult to get to the start from outside of the Disney grounds, and even more difficult for spectators to get around on the course to cheer you on. I'm not sure if they've increased the limits (now that they do the half on Saturday), but registration for the race usually closes by the summer. Positives: it is very well organized and supported, it's a real trip running through the theme parks, and it is flat except for a few overpasses. marathonguide.com is a good place to read comments on most marathons. Extreme Veteran 365 Winnipegosis | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! That sounds awesome. Is this the first year that they're doing this challenge? I've got the official Red Light from the wife for 2006. We've got a little one on the way for October, so the timing's just not right for making a quick trip down to FLA for the holidaze, but I'm busy working on her for 2007. Good luck! |

Expert 1065 Montreal | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! I don't want to put a damper on anyones desire to compete in any event but quite honestly I have only ever heard negative things about the Disney events. Someone I was running with a few weeks ago told me that 200 runners actually got locked out of Disney last year during the marathon. Could all be hear say - my only visit to Disney resulted in the theft of all my video equipment and a shrug of the shoulders by the Disney people in response so I might not be the most balance person on this. Still I can't be the only one hearing these stories so someone else must be telling them. Look before you leap. |

Expert 704 Durham, CA | Subject: RE: For Marathoners...Goofy's Challenge! the bear - 2005-06-05 11:11 AM Hey Bear,Thanks for the race info - that just about talks me out of this event - there are a couple of marathons within driving distance of my house that would be a whole bunch simpler, and cheaper - I may go that route, and do the family vacation on a weekend that I am not trying to run 26 miles. Thanks for the marathon guide link - that is a great website.Dennisslow&steady - 2005-06-05 12:09 PM I'm not quite up to the GOOFY challenge- but the marathon looks interesting.
